New circuit at the Abu Dhabi World Triathlon Series

The organizers of the ITU World Triathlon in Abu Dhabi have announced details of the new circuit design that will be moved to Yas Island.

The new headquarters is part of some of the novelties of this competition, since it was also revealed that in 2017, it will be two days long. 3.500 triathletes are expected to participate, including 120 from the world's best elite athletes on the iconic Yas Island on 3 and 4 days in March.

His ambition to attract 6.000 athletes in three years would place Abu Dhabi among the five most important cities in the ITU calendar in terms of participation. The growing popularity of sport in the region that accompanies the world development, summoned 2.200 athletes in the World Series in 2016, with hope that 3.500 will do so in the next edition.

The elite triathletes will start the race with two laps of swimming in the Marina de Yas, in front of the iconic Yas Viceroy hotel. The cycling stage is very technical 40km composed by seven laps around the island. The triathletes will visit various places of interest such as the Yas Marina Circuit, the Yas Links golf course, voted the best in the Middle East and next to the coast and the Ferrari World. The race will end with four laps of the race on foot with the finish line at the heliport of the Yas Marina Circuit.

To date, two of the best five triathletes have confirmed their participation: Henri Schoeman (bronze medalist in Rio 2016), and Richard Murray (twice Olympic participant).
