Tamara Gómez: round the world in search of Olympic glory

Having completed the first third of the 2015 season, we want to make a summary of how these four months have gone for the tricely athlete Tamara Gómez from Elche.

It all started on January 24 in Havana (Cuba) at the Ibero-American Sprint Championship and closed this cycle on April 25 at the WTS in Cape Town (South Africa). In these 3 months, Tamara has traveled more than 50.000 kilometers by plane, that is, the distance of one and a quarter turns to planet Earth.

Tamara has also been the Spanish with more international presences in these four months, with 7 competitions.

In the American competitions, the main objective was to obtain points to climb positions in the ITU ranking and thus be able to have access to the World Series and World Cups in Oceania, Tamara was 3ª in Havana, also raising the title of Iberoamerican champion.

In Cuba suffered a sharp fall hitting the coccyx area and during the following days I had severe pain thinking that there might even be a fracture. Finally the doctors discarded the fracture and could run in Puerto Rico although physically depleted and in pain. Still and so in the Copa de Punta Guilarte It was 10ª.

Weeks later the WTS started in Abu Dhabi where Tamara got a great 18 position and got her first points in the world series.

Later, a long journey to Australia and in the first competition of the Oceania tour, the woman from Elche was victorious in the Mooloolaba World Cup which is his best international performance to date. Right after, bad luck got the better of her and she can't finish the World Cup of New Plymouth (New Zealand) or the WTS of Gold Coast (Australia).

To finish this first period travels to the sixth different country (and fourth continent) South Africa, to dispute the WTS of Cape Town. An error in the T1 with the neoprene deprived him of being able to reach the second group, so he had to settle for fighting in the third platoon and thanks to a great race on foot he managed to finish in a creditable 37 place to score for the Olympic ranking.

As of today it would be classified for Rio'16, however, the road is very long and there is still a lot to compete.

At the moment the next weekend Chengdu World Cup in China and then the WTS of Yokohama in Japan.

In all these trips and competitions Tamara has the financial support of the FER Project of the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation and of the Telefónica Podium Scholarship. It also has the collaboration of New Balance. And finally the great support that her parents are for her in everything.
