Almost 1000 triathletes compete in the Spanish Middle Distance Championship in Valencia

The coincidence with the Triathlon of Zarautz has caused that many of the best triathletes of MD at national level are low in Valencia.


For the second consecutive year, Valencia hosts Championship of Spain of Average Distance, it is to be appreciated the effort made by the organizer (A300W), the Valencian Community Federation and the City Council to hold a mid-distance test in the 3ª largest city in Spain, with the complexity that this entails.

Note that the three segments are one lap, the 1900m swimming in Malvarrosa beach, then 82km cycling, the first kilometers run parallel to the Mediterranean Sea, then the triathletes go into the Sierra Calderona, with several short steep slopes to finish with a favorable return of false plains in descent. Finally the race on foot to a return, they are 21km by the old bed of the Turia river.

In the male category a priori the favorites are Raúl Amatriain y Josep Torres, silver and bronze in 2015. In addition you also have to take into account Joan Nadal, Miguel Ángel Fidalgo, Jose Manuel de Real o Ramón Ejeda.

Male start list

As far as women's competition is concerned, it only repeats Mabel Gallardo (3ª) of the 2015 podium. In addition to the Murcia the other favorites to victory are María Pujol e Ivet Farriols, who two weeks ago in the Ironcat under 9h40min. Other possible candidates for the medal are Lucia Pérez, Esther Rodríguez, Leonor Font o Alba Reguillo.

Female start list

The competition will start on Sunday 12 June to the 7: 30hs with the male elite category, 2 minutes later the girls, then the paratriathletes and then the GGEE. To mention also that the champion and champion of Spain have "double" prize, the national title and the classification (*) for the LD World Championship that if it disputes in the USA in September

(*) According to the FETRI criteria published on the website of the Spanish federation, the winner and winner of Valencia113 has got the ticket for the LD World Cup.
