Ana Casares and Egoitz Zalakain climb to the top of the podium in Reinosa

In a day marked by the inclement weather, Ana Casares and Egoitz Zalakin have been proclaimed champions of Spain Winter Triathlon.

 

 

The competition has been developed during the European Championship of the modality this Saturday 31 of January in the Cantabrian municipality of Reinosa.

The traditional format of the competition (10 km race on foot, 24 km cyclists and 10 km of cross-country skiing) has been altered due to the strong weather that affects the north of the Spanish peninsula these days that Reinosa made an appearance in form of cold and a heavy snow, leading to the decision (after consultation with clubs and involved) to go to dispute a duathlon sprint.

 In this way, the triathletes made a first segment of 5 km of running on two laps in the vicinity of the center of Reinosa, followed by 18 km cyclists and a last stretch of 2,5 km of race, returning to enter by the iconic streets of the village of Campurriana.

Ana Casares, runner-up in 2013 has managed to climb one more step in this edition, and after stopping the clock in 1: 06: 21 has won the national title rounding up its formidable participation in Reinosa. The second place has been for Yolanda Magallón who completed the tour in 1: 07: 10. On the other hand, Maite Murgia has completed the trio of aces of this championship in third position, entering the finish line about four and a half minutes behind the winner.

While in the male elite category Egoitz Zalakain has revalidated the title obtained in the 2013 edition, marking a time of 0: 54: 23. Behind, just 7 seconds, Pello Osorio he has reached the second place, at the same time that he has conquered the sub23 championship of the specialty. As long as Joan Freiaxa He has completed the podium by signing the bronze medal.
