Barcelona Triathlon joins Challenge Family

Barcelona Triathlon joins the global triathlon brand Challenge Family with the aim of further promoting and internationalizing one of the most emblematic events on the sports calendar.

With this new alliance, the test changes its name and will be called Challenge Barcelona Triathlon.

The new project was presented today at a press conference that was attended by the Councilor for Sports of the Barcelona City Council, David Escude, the CEO of Challenge Family, Jort Vlam, the sports director of the Challenge Barcelona Triathlon, Eloi Moragues, and professional triathletes, Judith Corachán y Albert Parreño.

Date and opening of registrations

The Challenge Barcelona Triathlon 2023 will be held on Sunday, October 8 and registration will open this Thursday, March 9 at 14:00 p.m.

As of today, this test becomes part of the annual Challenge Family calendar, thus adding to the more than 35 triathlon tests of the franchise in more than 27 countries around the world.

The fact that our test becomes part of the Challenge Family implies taking a huge step towards the internationalization of the competition and, also, increasing the number of professional athletes that will come to our city with the new Elit Short modality.

On October 8, citizens will enjoy a great sporting spectacle, full of emotions and on the best stage in the world".

For his part, the CEO of Challenge Family, Jort Vlam, has declared: "I am delighted to be here in Barcelona today for the announcement of this event which will be an experience like no other in this amazing city. The new short distance aimed at professional athletes promises a lot of excitement.

In addition, we will have all kinds of modalities and distances that perfectly represent our motto "everything for the athlete".

We want to thank the Ajuntament de Barcelona for their support in making it happen and we are very much looking forward to working with the experienced team of Challenge Barcelona Triathlon to create a spectacular event for athletes from all over the world.".

New professional modality: Elit Short

This year the test incorporates as a great novelty the Elite Short mode with 25.000 euros of prizes.

It will be held under the distances of 1.500 meters of swimming, 60 kilometers of bicycle and 16 kilometers of running.

It will be exclusive for professional triathletes and scoring for the World Challenge Bonuses, an initiative in which the franchise offers elite athletes the opportunity to compete for a ranking with a prize pool of 125.000 euros.

On the other hand, the test will also be scored for the PTO Ranking, the Organization of Professional Triathletes, and this Short modality will also qualify for The Challenge Family Championship, an annual championship that brings together the best triathletes in the world in Samorin (Slovakia).

Regarding the rest of the modalities, the Challenge Barcelona Triathlon will once again have the following distances:

• Olympic: 1.500 meters of swimming route, 40 kilometers of cycling circuit and 10 kilometers of the running section.
• Sprint: 750 meters of swimming with one lap, 20 kilometers of cycling with two laps and 5 kilometers of running with one lap.
• Super Sprint: 300 meters of swimming with one lap, 7 kilometers of cycling circuit and 2,5 kilometers of running with one lap.

As in the last edition, participation can be individual or even in pairs. The Sprint and Olympic distances can also be done in a relay format, so that if you do not want to practice the three disciplines, you can compete in the test with 1 or 2 companions.

The sports director of the test, Eloi Moragues, has added: "The agreement between Challenge Family and Barcelona Triathlon is the best option for this sporting event to be more international, more media and with more participants, making a qualitative leap and placing the city of Barcelona as a benchmark in triathlon worldwide.

It is the best alliance to achieve a unique race in a wonderful environment in which triathletes will enjoy it".

Professional triathletes have also participated in the presentation ceremony of the Challenge Barcelona Triathlon Judith Corachán y Albert Parreño. "That Barcelona becomes part of the Challenge Family world circuit is very important for the entire triathlon community. This city is loved and admired by everyone and being able to enjoy a test in the heart of Barcelona is a great attraction. As a Barcelona triathlete, it is a source of pride and I am sure that it will be a success”, Corachán assured.

For his part, Albert Parreño added: “Ee are facing the strongest evolution that the Barcelona triathlon has had in the last 20 years. I consider it a great opportunity to position our city as one of the benchmarks for popular, elite and amateur triathlon worldwide. I feel happy and lucky to be able to be present".

Junior Challenge and Tri Expo

The same as in 2022, but with a change in the name of the modality, the Challenge Barceona Triathlon will once again offer an option for the youngest with the aim of promoting and bringing this test to teenagers while they enjoy the best scenery and with the maximum security.

In this way, boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 17 who want to participate will have the option of doing so with a distance Super Sprint with the same services as adults.

In addition to the competition, one more year the Tri Expo, the triathlon fair that will take place on Friday, October 6 from 15:19 p.m. to 7:10 p.m. and on Saturday, October 19 from XNUMX:XNUMX a.m. to XNUMX:XNUMX p.m. at the CEM La Mar Bella, where both triathletes and curious people will be able to access the Fair of sports equipment exhibitors specialized and also to the merchandising of the test.

Broadcast by Betevé

For all those who want to follow the competition live but cannot get close to the Barcelona seacoast, this year Betevé will broadcast the event again with a special program that will begin first thing in the morning and will be extended with a program of more than 6 hours long.
