Everything ready for the Spanish Duathlon Championship

Emilio Martín and Inma Pereiro favorites for the title

 

Over the next few days, the Asturian town of Avilés will become the nerve center of the national duathlon, bringing together more than 1,100 duathletes who will dispute the Spanish Duathlon Championship in categories cadet, junior, sub23, elite, GG.EE. in distance sprint and GG.EE. in short distance.

 

 

An event organized by the Spanish Federation of Triathlon and the Asturian Federation, in collaboration with the General Directorate of Sports and the Municipal Sports Foundation of Avilés.

 

Between April 5 and 6, the Niemeyer Center will become the center stage for one of the most vibrant competitions on the national calendar. Around this emblematic center will be located the start, finish line and transition of a competition, whose foot race and cycling segment will run along the Paseo de la Ría.

 

The 268 boys and girls participating in cadet category, will open to the 14: 00 h on Saturday 5 April an exciting weekend, in a test that will run through a first sector of 2,5 km of running, 9,2 km on the bike and concluding with 1,25 km of race. Next to the 15: 00 h, it will be the turn for the paraduatlón with more than 30 athletes covering 5 km of the race, 18 km of cyclists and 2,5 km of the final race on foot.

 

In the afternoon will come the moment of the 570 duathletes registered in Age Groups. The first to start the competition will be the 318 duathletes in the sprint test (5-18-2,5). For its part, the competition in short distance will have 251 participants; a test that will start from the 17: 30 hours on an initial stretch and 10 km of race, 36 km of cyclists to finish with an 5000 until crossing the finish line.

 

The day of Sunday will begin from the 09: 00 h in the morning with the departures junior male and female with 114 duatletas, on a circuit consisting of 5 km initial of race, 20 km cyclists and concluding with 2,5 km of foot race .

 

After them, from the 10: 30h, we will see in action the female elite, with Inma Pereiro y Margarita García, second and third in the Championship of Spain of Pontevedra 2013, Lucía Pérez, Sonia López y Margarita Fullana starting as favorites to win.

 

While the male elite will take the exit to the 12: 00 h with Emilio Martín, winner in the 2013 edition and World Champion in Nancy 2012 and in force World runner-up of the modality, leaves as one of the clear aspirants to take the victory in male elite category. Other candidates include Sergio Lorenzo, fourth in the world championship held in Cali (Colombia) in 2013 or Raúl Amatriain.

 

An event that will also grant direct places for the Duathlon World Championship in Sprint mode, an appointment that will take place in Pontevedra between 31 in May and 1 in June.
