The Rioja Triathlon is suspended

El Triathlon of La Rioja, proof that it was going to be held on September 10, has sent a statement making its official cancellation for this year 2022.

The high temperatures and advance vintage have been the main cause of this suspension.

The organization will communicate shortly the new date for the year 2023 which will be brought forward to the month of May.

This is the official statement:

"Once again, the excess heat that all of Spain has been suffering since June has affected the La Rioja Triathlon, which has been forced to suspend the test that was expected to be held on Saturday, September 10.

The high temperatures have accelerated the ripening of the grapes and therefore the harvest has been brought forward in many municipalities through which the #WineTri cycling sector runs.

This fact, beyond the control of the organizers, has made it impossible to obtain the necessary permits since on those dates agricultural vehicles have preference on the roads.

Faced with this new difficult decision, and ruling out organizing another modality that is not a quality Middle Distance triathlon, the organization has decided to return 100% of the registration.

Likewise, there is the option of keeping the number of this 5th edition for 2023, which is expected to be held in the month of May.

Both the Rioja Triathlon Club and Innevento Sports deeply regret not being able to offer a #WineTri as they expected after the successful participation in 2021, even in times of pandemic.

For this reason, work is already underway to carry out a 5th edition of a triathlon with quality and with routes that make it one of the most beautiful in Spain.. "
