Exciting Sprint in the IRONMAN Lanzarote 70.3, Clarke wins by 5 seconds to Víctor del Corral.

Will Clarke has broken the test record in a minute and a half

A warm atmosphere was breathed in Lanzarote with temperatures of more than 28 degrees and an almost virtual wind that made today an excellent opportunity to break records in this IROMAN 70.3 Lanzarote 2014.

The professional triathlete Will Clarke crossed the finish line at the Club La Santa in 04: 04: 16, thus originating a new record, one minute and a half compared to the previous year. In second place has entered Spanish Víctor del Corral (4: 04: 22) and French ranked third Romain Guillaume more than 2 minutes from the winner.

Víctor comments on his social networks: "Race fought until the end and he escaped for a few seconds. Of which I am happy because I squeezed to the maximum and because the sensations were better as they passed the kms.

I left time in the water, as expected, it cost me 30-40kms to get rhythm on the bike, but I did it and got to T2 hard. On foot I regained sensations and positions, and get a good time"

This test gathered several of the favorites that will be found in the Ironman World Championship in October making it clear that everything is very even.

Victor del Corral

We must highlight the fifteenth position of Pakillo Fernández (05: 06: 54) where the young triathlete has had a bad day accompanied by stomach discomfort.

In the female category the Danish Helle Frederiksen dominated from the beginning the test, thus giving himself the first position on the podium., followed by Lucy Gossage (4: 50: 04) and the German Nicole Woysch (5: 03: 28) in third final position.

Already in the race, Clark was the first to get out of the water the 1.9k and guide the first part of the test bike. Although in the past IRONMAN of Lanzarote 2014 the test was made with a powerful cyclist, the Frenchman Romain Guillaume who took over from Clark in the section of the rise of Tabayesco.

The Frenchman remained in the lead until they reached the final lap of the final test, the half marathon. Where Clarke happened to be first and the winner of the last year of the IROMAN 70.3 Victor Del Corral, the second position was strengthened relieving to a third position to Guillaume.

The nerves of the race spectators continued until the last hundred meters, considering that Clarke took only five seconds out of Del Corral.

Frederiksen, the first woman to emerge from the water in a surprising 00 time: 22: 27, distanced from

Lucy Gossage her closest rival, about four minutes. The Danish, specialist in half-distance courses increased its advantage as the test progressed. Proclaiming itself finally winner in 04: 29: 59.

Gossage, who suffered some mishaps on the bike course, crossed the finish line in second position twenty minutes later, setting a time of 04:50:05, third place went to Nicole Woysh who passed the line thirteen minutes later. The first resident of the Canary Islands to cross the finish line was Helle Haurum.

Once again Lanzarote enters the scene and makes its reputation for being one of the toughest tests of the IROMAN. With this test the participants ensure a good soil and environment training for the next month in the world championship, IROMAN HAWAII.
