31 Spanish for the conquest of the Banyoles European Cup

Next July 27, Banyoles will dress up to receive the best triathletes in a new international event. For the fourth consecutive year, Banyoles will host an international triathlon of great relevance.

 

 

More than one hundred triathletes will gather in the Girona town, in an event that will have a large Spanish participation, in which Uxio Abuín, Ricardo Hernández, Jesús Gomar, David Castro, Nan Oliveras, stand out in the elite men's competition. Antonio Serrat, Pablo Dapena, Diego Paz, Roberto Sánchez Mantecón, Antonio Benito, Luis Miguel Sánchez Rosado, Jordi García Gracia, Arturo Galián, Aleix Domenech, Francisco Ruiz, Alejandro Cañas, Genis Grau, Lucas Mola, Víctor Fernández, Emilio Aguayo, Fernando López de Sagredo, Albert Parreño, Amancio Guerrero, Rodrigo Torres and the local triathlete, Pau Castellevell. All of them will have to face rivals such as Brendan Sexton, Etienne Diemunsch, Aurelien Lebrun or Jacob Birtwhistle, among others.

 

While in the female category we will see in action Miriam Casillas, María Ortega, Tamara Gómez, who returns to competition after a long injury, Sara Bonilla, Ana Mariblanca, Sara Pérez and Anna Flaquer. Among the rivals to beat are Felicity Sheedy-Ryan, Emmie Charayron, Katie Hewison, Losi Rosindale and Anneke Jenkins.

 

The circuit will be made up of a first swim section of two laps on a clockwise course on the impressive and iconic lake of Banyoles, followed by 40 km for six laps along an eminently flat course in the immediate vicinity of Banyoles. Finally, they will face three laps (10 km in total) for a sector of running on foot on asphalt, partially covering the town.

 

The mayor of Banyoles, Miquel Noguer, explained that "We have many consecutive weeks with activities in Banyoles, this weekend will be the European Cup triathlon, economically it shows in the city, in bars, shops, restaurants ...". According to Noguer, "It will help to talk about Banyoles and encourages the city as a place for triathlon and training competitions, and we spread the image of Banyoles around the world".

 

For his part, José Hidalgo, president of the Spanish Triathlon Federation, wanted to highlight the "Long history of Banyoles and its strong link with sport, and especially with triathlon". Hidalgo emphasized the continuous "Bet on triathlon, together with the great organizational level" of the locality. Also, the president of the FETRI, thanked the "Involvement and institutional commitment and the support of the residents of Banyoles, whose involvement year after year enhances the event".

 

The event will count on the collaboration of more than 250 volunteers, who throughout this intense weekend will contribute to convert, once again, a reference of international triathlon.
