The CT Diablillos de Rivas in women and AD Tri-Penta Terras de Lugo in boys, champions of the Copa del Rey 2014

The Valencian town of Canet d'en Berenguer vibrated throughout the day yesterday with the dispute of the King's Cup of Triathlon 2014.

 

 

A very exciting competition in which the spirit of team and camaraderie prevailed, and which saw as the Devil Triathlon Club and AD Tri-Penta Terras de Lugo they were proclaimed champions in the elite category of men and women.

 

The more than 200 participating teams faced a sunny day, in which at times the strong heat became another rival to beat. Still, nothing could stop some triathletes who gave great performances and made everyone there enjoy.

 

Those responsible for opening the competition were the participants in the Spanish Time Trial Triathlon Championship for School Age Teams, for a circuit consisting of 300 m swimming initials with start at Canet beach, 10 km cyclists near the town , to finish with 2,5 km of running race.

 

In the female category the triumph was for the components of the Triathlon Consulta Sergio Saiz. While the girls of the Saltoki Trikideak took the silver medal and the triathletes of the Tripuçol achieved the bronze medal. On the other hand, in the masculine category the CT Diablillos de Rivas won with the victory. The Madrid team was accompanied on the podium by the boys of the Trimarbella Bike-Aquarena and the Tripuçol; second and third respectively.

 

Then came the turn for the 72 teams in the Open competition, which ran through a first segment of a lap of swimming 750 m, followed by a stretch of 2 bike laps of 10 km each, to finish with two laps of race on foot (5 km in total).

 

The victory in the women's category went to ADSevilla Bikila. While the girls of CD Atalanta got the second place and the triathletes of the CDUPV Triatlo signed the third position of the final classification. In the men's event, the components of the CT Diablillos de Rivas were lifted to the top of the podium. Together with them, the Tri-Val Triathlon Club Valdemoro was awarded the second place, while the third position was for the triathletes of ADSevilla Bikila.

 

The main course arrived in the middle of the afternoon, with the outputs in the elite category of women and men. As in the Open category, the competition was developed in sprint distance. After moments of great anticipation, Sara Ruiz, Ana Mariblanca, Esther Barquero, Paula García and Mabel Gallardo from CT Diablillos de Rivas were proclaimed elite champions of Spain. Behind, Meritxell Velasco, Marta Sánchez, Nuria Pubill, Sara Loehr, Anna Flaquer and Alba Pardo of the Fasttriathlon got the runner-up. The third step of the podium was completed by Esther Rodríguez, Anna Godoy and Ana Catalina Godinho representing the City of Lugo Fluvial; conquering the bronze medal.

 

The triumph in the men's category was for the debutant team, the AD Tri-Penta Terras de Lugo. A luxury combination composed of Antonio Serrat, Fernando Alarza, Nan Olivera, Tomás Olivarri e Ignasi Baldellou, who completed the course with a final time of 55 minutes and 4 seconds. For its part, the powerful local team of Berenguer's Tricanet formed by Ramón Ejeda, Pedro Miguel Reig, Omar Tayara, Ángel Salamanca, Peter Bajai and Alejandro Cañas took the silver medal. Meanwhile, Rodrigo Torres, Luca Mola, Jordi García, Pau Castelvell, Juanjo Aguero and Javier López del Fasttriathlon they hung the bronze medal.

 

Thus ended an exciting day in which the teamwork, effort, tenacity and camaraderie of our triathletes became key factors in the dispute of one of the most exciting events in the competition calendar of the Spanish Triathlon Federation.
