David Castro finishes sixth in Quarteira's European Cup

In the men's elite event of the Quarteira Triathlon European Cup played on the March 21 Saturday afternoon, David Castro y Antonio Serrat They made an extraordinary final stretch of competition to go up to the sixth and seventh place. Together with them the rest of the Spaniards at the helm also performed at a very high level in the first round of European continental cups.

 

 

After a complicated 1,5 initial km of swimming in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean due to the strong wind that accompanied the triathletes in the day today, the French Raoul Shaw, Dorian Coninx and Aurelien Raphael led the race at the exit of the T1.

In front there was a flat and fast cyclist route integrated by some turns of 180º and a slight slope. The French trio was in the lead followed by two large persecuting groups. In the first, Spaniards Ricardo Hernández, Camilo Puertas and Kevin Tarek Viñuela circulated; while the rest of the Spaniards, including David Castro and Antonio Benito, were integrated into the second persecuting block.

The French would endure the harassment of the other adversaries, maintaining rents that ranged between one and a half minutes and almost two minutes apart. In the absence of a few kilometers to finish the sector, all the Spaniards managed to get hooked to the first pursuer group, after passing through the T2, face the last 10 km of running.

In this final third several of our representatives offered successful performances, climbing positions throughout the four laps of the segment. Among them blundered David Castro who got the fourth best partial, so as to qualify in a splendid sixth place and Antonio Serrat who recorded the sixth best time in the sector, and thanks to this great career progressed to seventh position.

For their part, four other Spaniards also stood out in this final section and reached the Top-20 of the competition, with Genis Grau winning the 13ª place, Aleix Domenech occupying the 14º place, Jools Beardon the 17ª position and Ricardo Hernández, who paid the cycling efforts, it was classified in 20º place.

While Diego Paz obtained the 23ª position, Jordi García Gracia, 24º; Camilo Puertas, 28º and Kevin Tarek Vinuela entered 41º. While Alejandro Cañas and Antonio Benito ran but luck, having to retire in the course of the test.

The triumph would be for Dorian Coninx. The Frenchman would be accompanied on the podium by the British Mark Buckingham and fellow Aurelien Raphael, silver and bronze respectively.
