The Doñana Challenge opens registrations

The test, which will be held on September 25, modifies the distances of its route

El Doñana Challenge, competition organized by the Ministry of Education and Sports of the Junta de Andalucía, will hold a new edition on SaturdaySeptember 25, 2021 in the town of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, and from today, July 1, starting at 10.00:XNUMX in the morning, all athletes interested in participating in the competition will be able to register.

The opening of the registrations will allow triathletes interested in participating in the test to better plan their preparation for the competition, and thus be able to combine it with others who are interested in competing in the coming months.

Discount price until July 22

The final deadline to register for the competition will end at 23.59:15 p.m. September XNUMX. And as in previous editions, those who formalize their registration until July 22 will have a discount in the price of it.

Desafío Doñana is one of the toughest endurance events held annually. It is a long distance triathlon made up of three different modalities: cycling, swimming and running.

The order of their disciplines, the difference

What sets it apart from other triathlon events is the order and distance of the disciplines; as well as its journey through places and environments of singular beauty and sensitivity, such as the mouth of the Guadalquivir and the Doñana National Park.

Change in routes

This edition will have as a special novelty the changes in the route of the three segments.

In the cycling event the distance becomes 80 km, in swimming it increases to 1,4 km. and the running segment decreases its length, going from 30 to 20 kilometers in this edition.

Only 200 participants will be in the test

Another novelty will be the limitation to participation in the test to 200 triathletes.

In the cycling segment, despite reducing the distance from 100 to 80 km, triathletes will encounter greater orographic difficulties than in other years.

The shorter distance may make cyclists take more risks of physical exhaustion, even so, it is an accessible test for any participant who wants to start in the medium distance of this sport.

The circuits

The test will begin at Avenida de Bajo de Guía in Sanlúcar de Barrameda. During the neutralized start, the cycling peloton will roll for several kilometers through the town that hosts the mouth of the Guadalquivir.

From this point there will be the official start of the race in which 80 km will be completed by bicycle, passing through Trebujena, Mesas de Asta, returning to Trebujena in the direction of Sanlúcar de Barrameda again.

Cyclist segment profile Doñana Challenge 2021

Once the cycling section is finished, the participants will have to swim 1,4 kilometers and cross the Guadalquivir river to Punta de Malandar, in the Doñana National Park, thus linking the sporting event to the provinces of Cádiz and Huelva, one of the main reasons for the origin of the Doñana Challenge.

The true uniqueness of the event is the foot race segment, which runs entirely through the virgin beach of Doñana National Park, the largest ecological reserve in Europe and a World Heritage Site since 1994, and from which the name of this event derives.

Without a doubt it is the hardest part of the test. The triathletes face a straight line of beach of 10 kilometers, without any type of building or urban element, only sand dunes and vegetation, on the one hand, and the immensity of the ocean on the other.

It is therefore essential mental resistance in addition to physics, taking into account that the same return route must be made to complete the 20 kilometers of this segment.

The test is organized by the Junta de Andalucía, with the support of the Andalusian Triathlon Federation, and the collaboration of the municipalities of Sanlúcar de Barrameda and Trebujena and the Doñana Natural Area.
