Emilio Martín and Gustavo Rodríguez favorites for the Duathlon World Championship in Pontevedra

The date of one of the most longed for competitions of the 2014 international panorama is approaching: the Duathlon World Championship of Pontevedra.

 

 

An event to which Spain will attend with a luxury selection, in which the presence of the current runner-up of the world y champion of the modality in 2012, Emilio Martín, which leaves as one of the favorites to achieve the title. In addition, the Spanish call is completed with Alexis Rodríguez, Raúl Amatriain, Cristóbal García, Gustavo Rodríguez y Oier Ariznabarreta in male elite category.

 

Among those summoned, Galician Gustavo Rodríguez that last year he got the silver in the Spain Championship disputed in Pontevedra, behind Emilio Martín.

 

And we can not forget the Sub 23 either. Young people are pushing very hard. Proof of this is that David Castro, one of the summoned, proclaimed Spanish champion Duathlon 2014 both in the elite category and in Sub 23, and surpassed the experienced Emilio Martín. Together with David, they will also play the World Championship in the Sub 23 category Antonio Benito, Pau Castellvell, Ignacio Barranco, Genis Grau y Pedro Antonio López

 

In female elite we will have Margarita Vic García, Lucía Pérez, Sonia Bejarano, Patricia Díaz, Paula García Godino (recent Sprint Triathlon Spanish champion) and Inmaculada Pereiro. Likewise, Sub 23 will also participate Miriam Casillas, Laura Gomez y Xisca Tous.

 

Casillas is making a very good season: in which the Spanish Duathlon Championship from Avilés, to which are added the Spanish Sprint Sub 23 distance triathlon championship and the elite runner-up, this past weekend in Altafulla. Without a doubt, she is one of the Spanish women in the best shape.

 

For their part, the juniors Claudia Luna, Carla Bertos, Sara Ruiz, Inés Santiago and Cecilia Santamaría will also be present at this important event. Together with them, in the men's event, Roberto Sánchez will start the race. Antonio Serrat, Javier Martín, Jools Beardon, Raúl Mansó and Luis Gutiérrez.

In turn, more than 1.200 athletes will participate in the age group tests (sprint and short distance) to be held throughout the 1 Sunday in June. The participation of Great Britain stands out, even superior to that of Spain or the United States. Spain will have a total of 283 athletes in these tests.
