Interview with Cesc Godoy, Catalan triathlete with more than 40 international contested events, and champion of Spain on several occasions

In two weeks, Barcelona will host one of the most important and crowded triathlons in the city, the Triatló de la Vila of the WILD WOLF Triathlon Series by POLAR circuit. Next weekend July 21 and 22, Barcelona will be filled with triathletes and the sports spirit will flood the city.

In the context of the Triatló de la Vila, we have the opportunity to speak with the winner of 3 editions of this test, the Catalan Cesc Godoy who will also participate this year.

Cesc, how are you doing this 2012 season?

I am currently halfway through the season and I can say that the balance is positive. This year I have decided to run several races on the American circuit during this first part of the season, obtaining good results, such as 3rd place in the Ironman 70.3 in Florida, 4th place in the Escape from Alcatraz and 5th place in the Nautica South Beach Miami, a qualifying event for the US Open. All of this has meant that I have not yet had the opportunity to compete at home, which is why I am really looking forward to the time to compete in my city, Barcelona.

Why the Triatló de la Vila of the Wild Wolf Triathlon Series by Polar circuit? What makes this circuit special?

I was born here, I train almost all year round in BCN too, so it is a must whenever my calendar The international level allows me to do so. In addition, the Triatló de la Vila takes place in places that are emblematic of our city, such as the Vila Olímpica, the Barceloneta beach, the Mar Bella, the Forum, etc. And finally, it also makes it special because it is a unique opportunity for my family and friends to come and enjoy the triathlon atmosphere that is breathed that day.

How do you see the possibilities of revalidating the title in Barcelona? And what do you think is your strong point of this circuit?

Every year the competition is stronger, triathlon is growing every day, and the elite of our sport is better prepared. In my last three participations in the Triatló de la Vila (2008, 2009, 2011) I have achieved victory. So once again, this year I will go all out to obtain my fourth victory in this very special triathlon. One of my strong points is swimming, where I normally try to break through the races, if I don't succeed, I collaborate with other athletes. bike with the triathletes who have swum at my pace, and I am trying to win the race on foot.

Are you planning to compete in more tests of the Wild Wolf TRieathlon Series by Polar circuit this year?

This 2012 I will participate in the Triatló de la Vila on July 22nd and I will also do it in Andorra on the 29th of the same month.

Now there is a trend for participation in triathlons, what recommendation would you give to people who are starting in this sport?

It is a cliché, but what I am trying to tell people is that they enjoy this sport. On the day of the competition, maybe it is more difficult, there are nerves, we want to give each one our 100%, and we only get the reward once we cross the finish line. Therefore, in each training we have to enjoy, do this because we like it. Triathlon is a very demanding discipline, it requires a lot of sacrifice, so the only way to achieve the goals that each one sets is to have a good time and enjoy every moment

During the day on Saturday, sports lovers will be able to enjoy the Expo where the best brands in the sector will be represented. And on Sunday, July 22, the Triatló de la Vila will have as its nerve center the Olympic Port of Barcelona, where the sprint distance (750m-20km-5km) will be disputed, with several differentiated outputs for relays, male and female. And the DIR Aquathlon (750m-5km).
