Interview with Rocío Aguirre, director of Expobike

On the occasion of the celebration of the first edition of the Bicycle and Triathlon Fair that will take place in Ifema during the next 14, 15 and 16 September, Triathlon News, has not wanted to let this great event go by indifferent as well as the possibility to be able to interview Rocío Aguirre, Director of Expobike, to offer our readers first-hand the most detailed information about the event.

How did the idea of holding a Fair bring together these two sports as fashionable as cycling and triathlon?

When analyzing the increase in cycling enthusiasm and the consumption of bicycles in Spain, with truly significant figures, I found that the sector lacked sufficiently visible shop windows. That's why I decided to put the know-how acquired in my years of experience in MADRIDGOLF at the service of the idea of creating a fair at the highest level as other sports and activity sectors have.

Uniting both sports in the same fair made perfect sense, especially since it was the first edition. However, I anticipate that our idea is that at Expobike 2013 there will be two clearly differentiated spaces. In this way, Expobike aspires to become the benchmark for cycling and triathlon in Spain.

Do you think it is due to the triathlon boom and what will be the triathletes who come to visit this event next 15 and 16 September?

I think it's a sport on the rise in Spain, with great athletes and very good promises. A sport with many followers by combining three disciplines in a single test, very dynamic and exciting, with a clear increase in federation licenses. The effort, sacrifice, preparation and dedication are the main attributes that hook the fans, without forgetting, of course, the successes of our triathletes who, with their outstanding role, are contributing in a significant way to make this sport more and more known and recognized In our country.

In Expobike, professional and amateur triathletes will be able to enjoy this event where manufacturers will have a presence as well as various competition organizers, where a wide range will be exhibited for this increasingly numerous audience. We will also have the presence of prominent triathletes, physical trainers, nutritionists ... who will give practical workshops from our activities scene.

How are companies in the sector responding? Will Expobike have the reference brands and will they show the new products on the market?

We are really satisfied with what we have achieved in such a short time. In the absence of a week for the inauguration of Expobike by Miguel Indurain more than 125 exhibitors and reference brands have hired its stand.

Yes, all companies have seen in Expobike the opportunity to expose and present their news. For example, Giant will present its entire range of products and Rotor will take advantage of the fair to present a first to the professionals of the sector a new product that will be on sale in December.

As parallel activities, will there be any kind of talk, activity, discussion ...?

Yes. Friday 14 September will be the day for professionals and within the organized activities will be developed the Technical Days that are sponsored by the Mapfre Foundation with two round tables, one on "Sustainable mobility in the city" and another about "The news of cycling in Spain." On Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 all our activity will focus on the public.

From our stage activities will be given practical workshops and general interest talks such as "How to prepare for a triathlon", "Sports nutrition", "Physiotherapy applied to triathlon", "The history of triathlon", etc. and three specific talks of this sport and sponsored by the specialized Triathlon News that will be "The Olympic Experience", "How to start the youngest in the world of triathlon" and "Triathlon and Women"

Do you think that this event will be consolidated after this first edition as a European benchmark in the world of triathlon? Is there a similar event at European level?

Yes, we hope so with the international projection of our fair. We could say that "The London Triathlon Expo" would be a mirror in which to look at ourselves.
