We interviewed Omar González San Pedro coach of the Olympic triathlete Javier Gómez Noya

This weekend Auckland (New Zealand) will host the grand final of the Triathlon World Series, one of the most relevant competitions on the international calendar where the Olympic triathlete Javier Gómez Noya will start with great possibilities of becoming Triathlon World Champion

Fernando Alarza, 2009 junior world champion, will compete this year in the U23 category with great podium chances among other triathletes who will attend the event. In the female Elite we will be able to count on the presence of Ainhoa Murua and in the male Elite with Javier Gómez Noya, Mario Mola and Ivan Raña.

After the excellent result obtained by Noya in the last Olympic Games in London where he won the first Olympic medal in Triathlon for Spain, this weekend we can see him compete in search of achieving the podium again in what would be the sixth consecutive year.

Beside this great athlete, we always find his coach Omar Gonzalez Sanpedro, who we wanted to interview today to learn more about how the triathlete is, his goals and shape and how they live the days leading up to this competition.

How do you see Javi after the Olympic Games? His recovery after the level of exigency that requires the preparation for a few JJOO, and his state in general (psychic and physical)

This year we have put all the meat in the grill for the Olympic Games. For this we have done fewer competitions and as the games have left us with a good taste in our mouths, we decided to extend the season to try to achieve a new world title or at least achieve for the sixth consecutive year to be on the podium of the World Cup, something that History of triathlon nobody has achieved.

How are you responding to the training and how did the recovery of the ankle go and if this has made you modify the workouts

As always we must take a positive reading of things, at that time we were very saturated after the games, but we wanted to share with all the triathletes the medal of London also being in Pontevedra. Well, thanks to that sprain we have been able to rest a little and get stronger at this end of the season.

What were or are the objectives planned for the 2012? Will winning the title of world champion in Auckland be one of the main ones for Javi and for you as a coach?

In the 2012 there was no other objective beyond the Olympic medal, at the beginning of the season it was the only objective that we set, from then on we would see how to act and we did this until the games did not decide the rest of the calendar. Previously we did preparation tests with good victories like in Miami or in the European Championship in Israel, which gave us a lot of motivation to follow with confidence the marked way.

How does the coach who spends 24 hours next to a triathlete of Javi's stature experience it from the inside in the most relevant events such as the Olympic Games and the final of the Triathlon World Cup? How are you happy and motivated with the results obtained in 2012?

The truth is that I consider it a privilege to be able to share all these experiences with an athlete and a person like Javi. At this point we have gone through all the states, to be champions, to be injured, ... That is why what we are trying to do is to relativize everything, not to exalt ourselves in good times or to become demoralized in hard times. Just keep working.

With the results I can not be happier we are always fighting for the first places and with a great regularity.

There are no previous results.
