IRONMAN Lanzarote host of the first Long Distance Triathlon Military World Championship

The appointment will coincide with the XXIX edition of the Club La Santa IRONMAN Lanzarote, where the participating military will have their own classification

Lanzarote will be the venue that will host, on July 3, 2021, the First Long Distance Triathlon Military World Championship, after the agreement sealed between Club La Santa, the Higher Council of Military Sports and the Spanish Triathlon Federation.

In this way, Spain will host the first edition of this test, which will bring together military athletes from all over the world.

10 countries represented

To date, 10 delegations have confirmed their participation: Spain, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, the Netherlands, Brazil, Lithuania, Slovenia, Russia and Poland. Registration is still open and more countries are expected to register.

It will compete in teams

The participants, who will compete in teams representing their different nationalities, will be part of the XXIX tour Club La Santa IRONMAN Lanzarote, although they will have their own classification at the end of the test.

Another test on the FETRI calendar

This announcement confirms the incorporation of another test organized by Club La Santa to the calendar of the Spanish Triathlon Federation, after the recent announcement of the inclusion of the Club La Santa IRONMAN Lanzarote, Club La Santa IRONMAN 70.3 Lanzarote and La Santa Volcano Triathlon Club to the National Ranking of Medium and Long Distance of the FETRI.

The hotel and sports complex located in the municipality of Tinajo aspires to host the military world championship permanently, every two years.

Fabio Cabrera, Director of the Race and Head of Sports at Club La Santa, stated that “It is an honor for us to organize this test and incorporate it into a tour of a historical event such as the Club La Santa IRONMAN Lanzarote. We are convinced that the participating military will live an unforgettable experience".

The Secretary General of the Superior Council of Military Sports, Colonel José Carlos García Verdugo, thanked “the Cabildo de Lanzarote, the Spanish Triathlon Federation and, especially, the Club La Santa, for the support provided for the organization of the First Military World Championship of Long Distance Triathlon within the framework of the Club La Santa IRONMAN Lanzarote 2021.

The countries will be attentive to this event because it is one of the first world military competitions after the declaration of the pandemic and after 2020 with a total absence of championships.

For its part, Jorge Garcia, Director of Competitions of the Spanish Triathlon Federation, has indicated that “We are very happy to add this military world championship to our calendar, after the meetings that have been held together with the Superior Council of Military Sports and IRONMAN.

It is a project with a great future, and it is a pride that it is going to be celebrated in our country and in an enclave as special as the island of Lanzarote.

One more project to add to those already achieved between FETRI and Club La Santa for this season with the inclusion of the two IRONMAN events that are held in Lanzarote and which will be valid for the National Ranking of Medium and Long Distance ”.
