Kenya's Jemima Sumgong, suspended eight years for testing positive and falsifying evidence

As reported by the AFP agency, the current Olympic marathon champion, the Kenyan Jemima Sumgong, has been sanctioned with eight years of suspension by manipulate and offer false information to the anti-doping authorities after giving positive for EPO in 2017.

The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), which handles doping-related matters for the International Athletics Federation (IAAF), explained on Friday that Sumgong filed a "medical report manipulated” at a hearing in Kenya after testing positive for erythropoietin (EPO), a hormone that regulates the production of red blood cells, in 2017.

Sumgong, from 34 years, was sanctioned previously for four years for his positive proof, a prohibition that now it has doubled to eight, up to 2027, for false testimony.

The Kenyan athlete won the gold in the 2016 Rio Olympics marathon, becoming the first woman in Kenya to win an Olympic marathon. His other great success was the victory that same year in the London marathon.
