Javier Gómez Noya wins the sprint to Mario Mola in the Garmin Barcelona Triathlon

The world champion managed to pick up the Mallorcan Mario Mola just 200 meters from the finish line.

 

 

Javier Gómez Noya he got up this Sunday morning with his second victory in the Garmin Barcelona Triathlon repeating the success that has already been added to the city of 2010. Gómez Noya, after a very regular and strategic race, managed to pick up the Mallorcan Mario Mola, world sub-champion of the specialty, a few 200 meters from the finish line.

 

Both had started practically together the race on foot behind the Barcelona Cesc Godoy, who left the second transition with 15 seconds ahead. Gómez Noya and Mola reached Godoy once the first kilometer of the last of the three disciplines was passed, and the three went together until kilometer four, at which point the two best triathletes of the moment left alone.

 

Cesc Godoy, which for the third year in a row was the fastest to complete the swimming sector, he went solo on the entire bicycle phase and in the finish line he was third to Mola's 18 seconds.

 

Javier Gómez Noya and Mario Mola played in this way their last 2014 duel, the first and only on Spanish soil, putting a sensational finale to the exciting season that both have starred in the World Triathlon Series.

 

On this occasion, the Mallorcan had to do his best and put all his efforts to hunt down the Galician, who surpassed him in the water with no less than 42 seconds, which caused both to spend most of the bike leg different groups until the distances of Mario's group were reduced and ended very close.

 

In the female category, the neozelandera Anneke Jenkins, clear favorite of the race, soon took advantage in the cycling sector, starting the race on foot 4 minutes with respect to the second classified, Anna Godoy

However, a foot twist contracted in the first transition made him leave as soon as he started the running sector. Anna Godoy was proclaimed finally winner with an advantage of 14 seconds over Anna Flaquer and more than six minutes on the British Eloise Crowley, which was third.
