2.500 triathletes prepared for the Vitoria-Gasteiz Triathlon, with great names in both the Full and the Half.

This Sunday 8 of July comes a new edition of the Vitoria-Gasteiz Triathlon with great participation in both the Full and the Half

This weekend marks the ninth edition of Triathlon of Vitoria-Gasteiz one of the emblematic tests of national triathlon and a reference also at an international level.

Each year we must highlight the greatness of this test, one of the few triathlons in Europe, with near 2.500 participants, able to face the two big Ironman and Challenge franchises, which distributes more than 38.000 € in prizes, the test with the highest cash prizes in Spain.

Full Distance

The triathlon's queen distance will be present for another year in the Vitoria-Gasteiz Triathlon, with its 3.800m of swimming, 180km of cycling and 42,2 km of the final marathon.

In the female category the current champion Julia Mai is the big favorite along with Brooke Brown winner in previous editions. Subsequently we must highlight the great national female participation, with up to 8 triathletes Elites, the only full distance triathlon that gets that great national participation year after year.

Ruth Brito will be the main Spanish trick to fight for the podium and the victory, and next to it they also stand out Helena Herrero, Patricia Bueno y Alba Reguillo, these last two will try to break the barrier of the 10 hours in Vitoria. Finally, also cite Nerea Gambra one of the most beloved Basque triathletes competing at home.

In the male category we must highlight the last-minute losses of Carlos López y Peru Alfaro. Iván Álvarez is the great favorite, current winner who arrives in very good shape as he showed in the Ironman of Lanzarote. Along with him, other candidates for victory and the podium are Victor Arroyo, who returns to the competition after a hard accident, the Portuguese Pedro Gomes, Moving away Santamaría one of the classics of the test who a few weeks ago was 2º in La Rioja, Mikel Elgezaba, Diego Paredes, the Guatemalan Raul Tejada, Xavier Torrades, Pakillo Fernández-Cortés and Dani Mujica.

Also highlight the return of Jose Luis Cano in the distance, who at almost 51 years will be safe disputing the top20.

Half Distance

As regards the medium distance test, the Half Distance, will also have great names in both male and female category. In women Judith Corachán is the favorite to try to repeat victory, along with the Australian Sara Lester, the Canadian Sara Bonner, the Andalusian Maria Pujol and the Basque Helene Alberdi.

We must also highlight the participation of Eva Valero, recent winner of Ecotrimad and Sonia Bejarano, both returning to the competition after different injuries and special mention to Aintzane Argaiz, who at almost 50 years will be fighting with the best as always.

In the male category Miguel Ángel Fidalgo is the main favorite, along with Erik Merino y Pedro José Andujar, the great PRO revelation of the past Ironman Lanzarote where 6 was the general. Also highlight the presence of the young Basque Julen Diaz.

Finally, we must highlight the great work that has been done by the organization to support the women's triathlon, which bears fruit year after year. Triathlon of Vitoria-Gasteiz the test with the greatest participation of Spanish women. Every year, Vitoria-Gasteiz Triathlon has lived this natural evolution, and based on this, the organization has decided to take a step forward by launching the initiative "Women and Triathlon".
