Tel Aviv will not let the marathon run to foreigners for the coronavirus

Three thousand of the around 40.000 registered participants are foreigners.

As reported iusport, the Mayor of Tel Aviv (Israel) will not allow to run the marathon this Friday to foreign participants, to exception of those already in the country, in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

"Following a request from the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality, the Director General of the Ministry of Health has approved the participation of international runners who are already in the country, diplomats and foreign residents in the Tel Aviv Marathon", said this Wednesday in an official statement

Last Monday, the municipal authorities reported the prohibition of participation to foreigners, in order to avoid their arrival in the country and protect themselves from the virus originating in China.

"As a precaution against the potential expansion of the coronavirus, the Ministry of Health of Israel has instructed to restrict the participation of international corridors“The Mayor then reported.

3.000 participants are foreigners

Three thousand of the around 40.000 registered participants are foreigners.

Of these, a thousand come from countries in Asia, to which the entry restrictions imposed by the country in recent days already applied.
