World Triathlon distributes $ 100,000 among several triathletes for Tokyo2020

In order to support your athletes, World triathlon has approved a fund of $ 100,000 support which aims to help those athletes who have the most needs

This help will help youHelp them compete at the Continental and World level during the Olympic and Paralympic Qualification Period.

A total of 23 athletes and paratriathletes

A total of 23 athletes and paratriathletes from 11 different countries (Azerbaijan, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Morocco, Philippines, South Africa, Tunisia, Turkey and Ukraine) will receive $ 3,000 each to help them cover travel expenses to qualifying events.

The remaining $ 31.000 of the total fund will be allocated at the end of June and will be distributed among the same 23 athletes, but considering the number and duration of trips that the athletes took during the period.

"As an organization, we are committed to supporting our athletes in every way possible. The pandemic has had a massive impact not only on their access to training and competitions, but also on travel and resources. 

Establishing these types of funds will be of great help to some of them on their way to Tokyo. 

It is our duty to provide opportunities to run and compete, but it is also our duty to work closely with National Federations and National Olympic and Paralympic Committees to identify the specific needs of athletes and try to assist and continue to support them throughout their life. road to the Olympics or Paralympics ”, Commented the World Triathlon President and IOC member, Marisol Casado.

World Triathlon received 28 applications from 14 different nationalities, most of them from athletes currently competing at the highest level to attempt to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics or Paralympics this summer.

To receive the funds, athletes had to be registered and up-to-date with their National Federations and have demonstrated the ability to compete at a high level in Continental and World Triathlon level competitions.
