Alejandro Santamaría could be the first triathlete in the world to have finished an Ironman race on the 5 continents and among the first 6.

The next April 14 Alejandro Santamaría will dispute the Ironman of South Africa. Previous to this, he has disputed tests Ironman in the other 4 continents and its worst classification has been an 6º position.

Possibly the first Spanish in do an Ironman on the 5 continents and if he manages to finish in South Africa in top10 positions he will surely be the only Spanish to do top10 in the five continents and maybe even the only one in the world.

America is undoubtedly the continent that has been best given to Alejandro, there he has achieved an 2º position in the Ironman of Mont-Tremblandt in Canada in 2012 and a 3rd in Cozumel, Mexico in 2011. In Europe their best positions have been the 5º of UK (2006) and the 6º of Austria (also in the 2006). In Asia he managed to be 6º in Korea (2007) and in Oceania also got an 6º placed in the Ironman Western Australia (2006)

Now he only has to conquer the African continent and thus achieve a historical record. It will be his first big test of the season. His workouts have gone to perfection after the last two months of tough training at Sands Beach. But in recent days some discomfort in a hamstring has worried the triathlete who sees his start to the season in danger. Alejandro has not been able to run for a few days but he still hopes to recover and has decided to participate and be on the starting line. Although he will not be able to be 100% as a fighter that he is, he does not want to miss the opportunity to try.
