David Castro and Marta Fernández de Castro prevail in Valencia LD

In a day marked by intense heat, more than 700 triathletes have gathered at the Royal Navy Juan Carlos I, the nerve center of Valencia LD, to star in the second edition of a test that has taken the medium distance to the heart of the Valencian capital.

 

 

In the male elite, David Castro (TriSport Sierra de Madrid) has imposed a very fast pace and after coming second of the water has managed to take advantage in the cycling sector, exceeding three minutes of difference to reach the furthest point, in Náquera, and reaching the second transition with almost five minutes with respect to his immediate pursuer, the Navarrese Raúl Amatriain. Triathlete Saltoki Trikideak, who in 2012 became champion of Spain in Valencia LD, gave himself one hundred percent in the race on foot, starring in a very exciting duel until the end.

 

However, and despite cutting time in each lap, the victory was finally for David Castro who, shortly after noon, crossed the finish line in a time of 4: 04: 05. Second Raúl Amatriain and third the Argentine Gonzalo Esteban Pardo.

 

David Castro especially highlighted "the cycling circuit, since I liked it a lot and I also found myself very comfortable, especially on the return leg".

 

Marta Fernández de Castro, winner in her debut

After a life linked to athletics and 25 years at Valencia Terra i Mar, Marta Fernández de Castro (3FDC) lives triathlon with passion now. In this Valencia LD 2013, his debut in the middle distance could not have been better. Despite "losing 11 minutes in the swimming sector, I started to climb on the bike and in the race on foot I felt very comfortable", she commented after proclaiming herself the absolute winner of the event. In a final hand-to-hand with Mabel Gallardo (CT Diablillos de Rivas), the Valencian has surpassed the Murcia in the last kilometers and has achieved the win in 04: 46: 45. Third has been Ana Isabel Estevez García.
