ICAN Nordhausen celebrates this Sunday

The German city of Nordhausen hosts this weekend the international premiere of the ICAN series

Near 200 triathletes will meet this Sunday in the first international test of the ICAN Series. The chosen scenario is the German town of Nordhausen, in the heart of the Germanic country and with an important tradition in sports events and especially triathlon. In fact, next to the Half distance (1,9 km of swimming, 90 km of cycling and 21km of running), the weekend is completed with competitions for children of all ages and a sprint triathlon for participants with less experience.

A historical town that has been turned over for the celebration of this ICAN Nordhausen, as was demonstrated in the presentation press conference. An act that was attended by the mayor of the city. Dr. Klaus Zeh, the representative of the bank Kreissparkasse, Sebastian Gräser - on behalf of the sponsors -, and some of the leading triathletes who will fight for the victory, in the case of Heidi Sessner, Katja Konschak or Georg Potrebitsch.

Uli Konschak, organizer of this competition, and Sunil Bhardwaj, the highest representative of ICAN Triathlon, were all in attendance, and all of them highlighted the enormous enthusiasm with which they expect this event and the importance for Nordhausen of hosting an international event.

For their part, the main triathletes spoke of a competition of the highest level and with many unknowns regarding the final result. Not in vain, among the participants is Katja Konschak, winner of several tests of the ICAN series and current German champion, Heidi Sessner, first in the German Long Distance Championship in 2011 or Georg Potrebitsch, second in an International Challenge held in Taiwan.

Sunil Bhardwaj recalled that ICAN seeks in its competitions a special attention to triathletes and their companions and recalled that, thanks to this sports tourism, Nordhausen will have an economic impact close to the 300.000 euros, since they have registered triathletes of six different nationalities and Most of the participants are from other regions of Germany.

Finally, the mayor of the city congratulated himself on ICAN's bid for Nordhausen and showed his desire to continue working together in the future. By the way, Dr. Klaus Zeh received a triathlete jersey from the organization and did not rule out this weekend, since his hobbies include triathlon.
