Fernando Alarza and Melina Alonso Bronze in the Pan American Triathlon ITU Cup

Outstanding performance of the Spanish in the Triathlon ITU Pan Am Cup held the February 16 in the Argentine town of Mendoza, where Melina Alonso y Fernando Alarza they have hung the bronze medal in their respective categories and in which the rest of Spanish participants reaped remarkable results.

 

 

The first to take the start was the women, with Melina Alonso and Maria Ortega facing a circuit played in Olympic distance. Ortega and Ecuadorian Maria Cristina Farez would be the first to complete the swim segment, followed closely by Camila Makre, Romina Palacio and Melina Alonso.

 

Ortega and Farez were competing for the lead in the early stages of the cycling segment, with the chasing group trying to close the gap. The situation would be maintained until the beginning of the run on foot, in which Ortega was placed in the first laps of the circuit. Then Farez and Romina Palacio, who was recovering positions.

 

When they reached the third round, Palacio was the leader, with Farez second and Melina Alonso in third position; while Ortega went down to fourth place. A classification that would become definitive, with the local Palacio obtaining the final triumph. It is worth noting the splendid performance starring the two Spanish triathletes who responded very positively, obtaining great results in the Argentine city.

 

In male elite category, Alarza took the lead from the initial segment, starting in first position together with Luciano Farias. The cycling sector started, Alarza, Farias, Ricardo Hernández, and Juanjo Andrade led the competition. Behind, the persecuting group included among others Nan Oliveras and Antonio Serrat.

 

Misfortune accompanied Alarza in this segment when he suffered a puncture mediated by the cycling sector, and the triathlete of Talavera de la Reina lost the wake of the leading group. Once the wheel change was made, Alarza joined the pursuer group with a disadvantage of 55 seconds over the front trio.

 

After the departure of the T2 would come the comeback of Fernando, who little by little approached the leading group and got into the fight for the medals. A group that mediated the stretch of running was formed by the two Spaniards, Taccone, Tellechea and Andrade. In which the triathlete Gonzalo Tellechea, with his compatriot Luciano Taccone occupying the second position, finally won.

 

Behind the rest of the Spanish also gave very outstanding performances, obtaining notable results such as the fourth place for Nan Oliveras, the fifth for a Ricardo Hernández who remained in the front group and remained in the fight for the podium during much of the contest. . While Antonio Serrat entered a worthy sixth position. For their part, Iñaki Baldellou and Diego Paz had to withdraw during the competition.
