Javier Gómez Noya arrives at the 101 ITU races

His first participation was in June of 2002 in Estoril

Next Saturday 11 of April in the Australian city of Gold Coast Javier Gómez Noya disputes its 101st ITU race and to celebrate said centenary in Triathlon News we wanted to make a statistical summary with the data of its competitions, from its first European Cup back in June 2002 in the Portuguese city of Estoril, to the recent WTS in Auckland from a few days ago in New Zealand.

Javi's numbers are impressive, starting with his 4 world titles in elite category to which we must add the global sub23 of 2003 in Queenstown (New Zealand) where he began his particular victorious relationship with the oceanic country that we will see later.

In total Javi has won 37 (from 99) ITU races, which is the 37,4% of wins in their competitions, spread over 10 world series, 14 world cups, 3 ctos. of Europe, 7 continental cups, 1 world sub23, 1 world elite (when this was disputed to a single test) and 1 cto. of Europe MD.

In addition to these 37 victories, Noya has managed 23 second places, what supposes that almost the 60% of its races finishes them in 1ª or 2ª position. As regards third positions, total 8, that is to say that the 68% of their competitions ends them on the podium.

Other information to take into account the number of Top 10, 92 times has achieved it, which means that the 92% of its competitions ends up among the first 10. Finally, we analyze their abandonments or unfinished races, another data of the greatness of this athlete, because only in 5 the Ferrolan has not passed the finish line, that is to say that the 92% of its ITU competitions ends, simply impressive.

On the other hand we want to distinguish between Olympic distance and sprint distance competitions. It can be affirmed with the data in hand, that Gómez Noya is "the King" of Olympic distance, where 83 races finished, the 71% of them on the podium, totaling 35 wins, 18 second positions and 7 third.

On the other hand, the inclusion in the ITU calendar of the sprint distance in 2011 has meant that Noya has only one 10 race win, although the podium percentage is similar, with an 60%. As it happened to other myths of the sport like the basketball player Wilt Chamberlain, we can show that Javi "has changed" the rules of his sport, as there is more and more sprint events where the Galician is not as dominant as in the Olympics. (Obviously, this is not the reason why the ITU is betting more and more on sprint races, but we wanted to make this reference to highlight Noya's dominance in "his distance")

Next, we will analyze geographically the competitions deputized by Noya in his 14 seasons as ITU triathlete, where he has competed in 26 countries.

How could it be otherwise Spain is the country where most has competed, with 16 races also obtaining the highest number of wins (6). Note that "at home" is where you have reaped "your worst" result, the 40 position of the cto. of Europe of Pontevedra in 2011, where he had a bad day but Noya chose to finish the race and not leave.

We can affirm that "Your best "country is New Zealand, where he has finished on the podium the 7 times he has run, with 5 wins and two second positions. Furthermore, in the antipodes, he won the 23 sub2002 World Championship, the 2012 WTS Grand Final and "started" to win the 2013 and 2014 World Championships with his WTS wins in Auckland.

On the other hand, there are two countries Mexico and hisdAfrica where we can also affirm that they are "Territory Noya " Javi, because all the races that he finished there have always been crossing the finish line in first position, with 3 victories in the American country and 3 in the African.

As anecdotal data we highlight that there are 5 countries (South Korea, France, Arab Emirates, Qatar and Greece) where Noya has not managed to finish on the podium, although it is true that except in the first where he has run twice, in the The rest has only competed once.

This is our little tribute that we want to offer the multi champion Javier Gómez Noya as a prelude to his ITU centenary ... "Long live the king"
