The FETRI announces that it will present a recourse to the ITU against the action of the Brownlee

The FETRI has sent a Statement on the Grand Final of the World Triathlon Series

The Spanish Federation of Triathlon (FETRI) through this press release:

Analyzing the events that occurred during the final test of the male elite category of the Grand Final of the Triathlon World Series played in Cozumel - Mexico, the 18 of September of 2016, the FETRI informs of its intention to present the corresponding appeal before the ITU Arbitral Tribunal (International Triathlon Federation).

Although the claim submitted by the Spanish delegation to the Competition Jury after the completion of the test was not estimated, the FETRI considers that a correct application and interpretation of the regulation should lead to the disqualification of the athletes involved. And the FETRI understands that the usual performance of both participants is worthy of disqualification based on what is contemplated in the current competition regulations of the ITU.

It was a situation in which there was evident help from one participant to another, not being allowed or foreseen in the applicable regulation. It should be noted that the reported situation had an impact on the result of both the final test of Cozumel and the Grand Final of the 2016 Triathlon World Series, directly affecting the sporting results of Spanish triathletes.

The aids or support among participants, as was the case, should be limited to those that are expressly authorized in the regulations, but not to others. Admitting aids or supports between participants that are not expressly provided for in the regulations compromises the very essence of an individual sports specialty.

To file an appeal before the ITU Arbitral Tribunal should be understood as an action by the FETRI of logical defense of its own interests and those of its athletes.
