A triathlete dies in the Ironman of Nice

A British participant passed away yesterday in the Ironman from Nice after suffering a bicycle accident when going around a curve and hitting a wall, the rescue services indicated.

 

The 30 triathlete years old, who He left the road in a curve and he hit the wall when he was traveling in the town of Tourrettes sur Loup, near Nice, he was evacuated in a helicopter but nothing could be done to save his life.

The newspaper "Nice Matin" stated that he was the victim of a serious head injury and suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest from which the firefighters managed to revive him, but he died a little later, after having been transferred by helicopter, at first to the city's airport .

He is known as Ironman of France, with exit at the Centenario beach and where the sportsmen had to travel 3,8 km by swimming, with a Record participation of 2800 triathletes, of which an 70% foreigners, and a hundred professionals.

Once out of the water, the runners had ahead 180 kilometers on bicycle in the vicinity of the capital of the Cote d'Azur with a quite uneven path.

The culmination of the test was a marathon that ran for a route of 10,5 kilometers through the interior of Nice that had to be repeated four times.

 

In this edition 2013, The Belgian Frederick Van Lierde, winner in 2011, 2012, has been the winner of the test, and in the female category the North American has won Mary Ellis.
