Javier Gómez Noya: "In addition to the joy of my 4º world title, I am very happy for Mario's runner-up. It is something very important for the Spanish triathlon "

In a race with development and unexpected outcome Javier Gómez Noya has achieved the world triathlon title with 3º in the final appointment in Edmonton.

As we told you yesterday, The Galician had to be aware of Jonathan Brownlee and Mario Mola, the other two contenders for the title, and that has done. It has not mattered to him but quite the opposite that Alistair Brownlee won the triathlon since the Olympic champion did not count for the general.

Alistair was already in the lead in the swim and formed a first group when the bike started. A few kilometers later another group joined with Javi and Jonathan Brownlee, forming a squad of 20 that was not Mario Mola. It was towards the km 30 when the group in which marched the Mallorcan came to the head after filing the advantage little by little. Surprisingly it started Alistair Broownlee, who was joined by the Brazilian Colucci and the young and practically unknown Norwegian Blummenfelt: "My mission was to monitor Jonathan and Mario. That's why I did not care if Alistair ran away. "

The head trio came to the T2 with 1'10 advantage, something that left the victory on a plate for the Briton. The title was going to play behind, determining the difference in positions between the three candidates. As expected, Brownlee's two companions could not take the lead and were overtaken by the fastest of the great group, precisely the aspirants.

The situation clearly favored Gómez Noya because when he passed by the 5 km, and if he did not suffer an incident, 4º would be the worst result, and without the other two winning. In the absence of 2km and with Alistair losing advantage but without becoming restless, Jonathan lost contact with the two Spaniards, which not only made the title easier for the Galician but also placed the Mallorcan in the 2ª place in the general.

In the last meters Mola stood out from Gómez Noya who crossed the 3º goal celebrating the title and receiving the hug from the other Spaniard, as happy as he: "I felt good, without a trace of the stomach ache that hurt me in Stockholm. On foot we have been helping the two Spaniards and we managed to pick up Jonathan. In addition to the joy for my 4º world title I am very happy for Mario's runner-up. It is something very important for the Spanish triathlon. "

An 4 title that equals the British Simon Lessing as the one that has achieved the most in history, to which it is necessary to add that since 2007 in all editions (either in a single test format or in a scoring circuit) it has remained in the Top 3.

But his season does not end here since on Sunday he will play alongside Montreal Middle Ironman World Championship. A distance that has only been done twice (in Calella 2013 and Puerto Rico 2014), with different rivals to the current ones of the World Series. Although many of them have competed in the past in the circuit of the international federation.
