University of Alicante and the Ferrol Triathlon Champions of the King and Queen Cup in Pontevedra.

A strong downpour accompanied the participating teams in elite category, in a vibrant competition played in time trial format

El Ferrol Triathlon has been proclaimed champion of the first edition of the Queen's Cup, celebrated this Saturday 21 of May in the city of Pontevedra. For its part, the components of University of Alicante revalidated the title of the Copa del Rey obtained the previous year, in an intense and disputed day, within the framework of the second scoring round of the Spanish Grand Prix Cofidis Triathlon.

A heavy downpour accompanied the participating teams in the elite category, in a vibrant competition disputed in a time trial format in which teamwork was essential, with teams of between 4 and six contestants facing a circuit composed of 750 m of swimming in the river Lérez, 19 km of cyclists around the Puente de los Tirantes and 5 km final race on foot that ran along the Pontevedra shore.

The expectation was served until the end in the women's event, with several teams immersed in the struggle to win the title in play. Finally, the representatives of the Ferrol Triathlon reached the victory by stopping the clock in 01: 09: 13. A tight final in which the girls of the Cidade de Lugo Fluvial obtained the subchampionship when finishing in 01: 09: 17 and the members of the Fasttriatlon - CN Montjuic were awarded the bronze medal with a time of 01: 09: 19.

In elite men the triumph would be for the boys of the University of Alicante, who for the second consecutive year marked the best record (57: 53). The second place would be for the Galician of the Cidade de Lugo Fluvial, while the Madrid team of CT Diablillos de Rivas rounded the day climbing to the third step of the podium.

Previously in the school championship, the Saltoki Trikideak Team A girls showed a great level, winning the gold in a time of (24:43). The second place was in the hands of the triathletes of CEA Bétera Team A (26:25), while CT Diablillos De Rivas Team B (26:35) completed the podium in third place.

For their part, in the men's event, the Montilla Córdoba Triathlon Team A boys won the gold medal, completing the course of 300 m swim, 5 km cyclists and 1,6 km of race, in 21: 42. Six seconds later they finished their second qualifying, the Andalusians also of ADSevilla Bikila of team A. While the third position was for CT Diablillos de Rivas (22: 11).

In the women's open category the Madrid teams took the podium, with the triathletes of the CT Diablillos de Rivas team B achieving the first position in just 01: 21: 08. The second place fell to the members, Club Triatlón Las Rozas team B in 01: 26: 08. As representatives of the Marlins Triathlon Madrid team B with a final time of 01: 33: 00.

In the men's competition the E team of CT Diablillos de Rivas reaped a new triumph, ending in 59: 42. The boys of the Arcade Inforhouse Santiago team C were made with the subchampionship in 01: 02: 19 and the Madrid team of the Triathlon Claveria Móstoles team B, third, completing the course in 01: 03: 07.
