Olympic Qualification Update: Routier, Murua and Casillas give Spain the 3 Olympic places

Thanks to the magnificent 5ª square by Miriam Casillas in the WC of New Playmouth Spain now has 3 Olympic places

 

After all the Olympic cycle that started in May of 2014 almost 2 years ago with 5 seats (3 men + 2 women) at the moment Spain has the 6 Olympic places (3 in men and 3 in women) the maximum number of triathletes that a country can qualify for the Olympic Games.

Thanks to the magnificent 5th square of Miriam Casillas in the toilet of New Playmouth Spain now has 3 Olympic places, the maximum possible.

Ainhoa ​​Murua occupies the position 40ª and Carolina Routier the 41ª of the Olympic ranking, both have a foot and a half in Rio'16 but they still have to keep adding points to certify their classification. For its part Miriam Casillas 7 positions have been promoted this weekend, placing 58ª of the Olympic Raking, beating the Canadian Paula Findlay and the Italian Alice Betto.

Countries with 3 seats

Remember that the maximum number of countries that can take three triathletes to the Olympic Games is eight, of these eight there are five that will safely qualify three triathletes (USA, Australia, Great Britain, Germany and Japan). Subsequently there are 4 countries (New Zealand, Spain, Canada and Italy) where three of them opt for the maximum Olympic representation.

Right now the third place in New Zealand is occupied by Simone Ackermann (54ª in the raking) with 2537 points, followed by Miriam Casillas (58ª) with 2378, Paula Findlay (60ª) with 2214 and Alice Betto (61ª) with 2206. So it would be the Italia who would be left without a seat.

We must also take into account the Dutch Maake Caelers, the Belgian Claire Michel and especially the Olympic runner-up Lisa Norden, both located in positions close to Miriam.

Next tests

Now missing 5 tests for the completion of the Olympic qualification, triathletes await a round the world, competing in Australia, China, South Africa, Mexico and Japan. These are the appointments:
