Analysis of ironman 70.3 of Pánama by Javier Gómez Noya

Just like we counted yesterday the first competition of the year for the champion the world It could not have been better, even more so in the case of a distance that he had only faced once in his life, the Half Ironman, in Calella Mayo from 2013.

Javi has managed to cross the finish line first, confirming the prediction that gave him as favorite despite the fact that among the rivals were some of the highest level and with great achievements in medium and long distance.

The truth is that it has shown to have the test controlled from the first strokes in the Pacific Ocean. The current in favor made the times in the theoretical 1.9 km were similar to those of the 1.5 of the Olympic distance triathlons, with between 16 and 17 minutes for the heads.

Javier was the first to get out of the water and get on the bike, but he gave the lead as planned to the American Starowicz, someone who spends almost all his ammunition during cycling which is very profitable media, but rarely serves to Be the first in the goal:  “That current in favor for me has been detrimental since it makes it difficult to make a difference; it is easier to put up with the wake of others who would leave you if there were not that current. Anyway, even having gotten something else, I was counting on losing the bike lead. Of course, Starowicz did not worry me as long as I did not spend more than 10 minutes and at the turning points I have verified that his advantage was not going to be that much. I followed the planned tactic and when others who did have a good level passed me in the third phase I followed their pace without problems, of course maintaining the distance set by the regulations ”.

With this, Gómez Noya got off the bike the sixth, almost 4 minutes behind the leader but with the rest less than one. There he began his recital, running at a pace impossible for the rest of the head: "I preferred to go strong to take the lead as soon as possible and then keep the advantage.

As soon as I started, I was second and I passed the leader in 7. From there I have not squeezed myself to the full, yet I have increased the advantage. Being a route with several round-trip sections is a double-edged sword: it allows you to relax if you are comfortable in the lead, but it can be a torment if you go wrong and they hunt you down. Therefore I cannot be happier about my experience here; In addition to the victory, the organization has turned to attention and I have felt as encouraged as in Spain by the public and the amateur triathletes who have competed.

The same thing happened days ago in San Diego when he received the award from Triathlete USA magazine. These are moments of joy that make me consider myself very lucky for the life I lead and that motivate me to continue training and taking care of myself as much as possible every day to continue in the elite.

This victory increases the interest for the participation of Javi in the world championship of this distance, in Canada in September.

But for that there are almost 7 months, in which the objective is to revalidate the title of the World Series starting in New Zealand on April 6. There will go Javier with his coach Carlos David Prieto directly from Panama; and there you will meet the triathletes who have already been with them in Fuerteventura who travel from Spain.

But they will not live near the capital Auckland, the scene of the triathlon, but on the south island. In a village called Wanaka, in an area famous for mountain tourism that is ideal for training triathletes by being on the shore of a lake, having mountain roads for cycling, endless paths for running, as well as complete sports facilities.
