Anna Rovira and Raúl Amatriain are proclaimed Champions of Spain Duathlon LD

Anna Rovira y Raúl Amatriain they have proclaimed this February 23 Spanish Champions of Long Distance Duathlon in elite category, in a competition that has gone through a demanding circuit in the Alicante town of Orihuela.

 

 

More than 360 duathletes between the categories Elite, Sub23, Paralympic and Age Groups were concentrated on Sunday morning in Torremendo, to participate in a modality that had not been disputed for twelve years.

 

The first to take the start were the elite boys, in a test that began at 9: 00 hours, with a first section consisting of two laps of a total of 16.4 km of running, which would run in the vicinity of the locality. From the beginning, Raúl Amatriain was in the lead along with Juan Salvador Díaz Cuellar (CD Natación Castulo); in a segment in which Amatriain would be the clear dominator, arriving at the first transition in the lead.

 

After the Saltoki Trikideak duathlet, Lluis Vila Aguilar and Díaz Cuellar were the next to leave the T1, to face the 66 km cyclists for a demanding circuit that included 16 steep slopes, whose extension ranged from 500 to 1 km. All this for a route that also had a positive slope around 470 m in each of the two laps that formed it.

 

After the first cycling lap, Amatriain remained in the lead. Behind, the Italian Domenico Passuello, Manuel Pando and Alejandro Jiménez were hunting him. Once the 66 km had been completed, Passuello left T2 in first position with Amatriain chasing him three minutes behind the Italian of the A300W Elche TC Pando, Jiménez, Yus, Montero and Vidal Aguilar would be the next to start the final sector of the foot race.

 

Finally, the Italian Passuello obtained the victory in the II Duathlon Orihuela 90.0 - "Vientos del Pueblo". Meanwhile, Raul Amatriain was the first Spaniard to cross the finish line, becoming the Spanish champion of the modality. Manuel Pando of the Santander Triathlon, took the runner-up and Alejandro Jiménez (CT Tecnificación Torrevieja), completed the podium in third position.

 

On the other hand, Pablo López from CN Mataró took the title in the male Sub23 category, with Álvaro Barragán, from CT Tecnificación Torrevieja, taking second place.

 

In the female elite, Sara Bonilla (Clavería - Móstoles Triathlon), Lucía Pérez (Diablillos de Rivas Triathlon Club) and Miriam Muñoz (SYS Laboratory Triathlon Club), marched in the lead in the first bars of the competition, although they arrived at T1 Bonilla, Muñoz and Anna Rovira were the ones who made up the leading trio. From then on, Rovira would take over the reins, and after the first lap of the cycling segment, he led the contest. Next, Muñoz, Marta Fernández de Castro, Nuria Rodríguez and Bonilla pedaled to cut distances.

 

Rovira would continue to star in the test, dominating the final 8.2 km of the running race, from the beginning of this last sector. In the absence of 6 km, the duathlete of the Club Esportiu Team Calella Triathlon retained its leadership, with Marta Fernández and Muñoz in its wake.

 

Anna Rovira would maintain her advantage and proclaimed champion of Spain. Second, Miriam Muñoz would enter 6 minutes and 40 seconds and was awarded the silver medal. Meanwhile, Marta Fernández de Castro, Team 3FDC completed the podium in third position.

 

In the Paralympic duathlon, in the TRI-1 category, Rafael Botello took the victory and Francesc Sola the runner-up. While in the TRI-4 category, Rafael Solis signed the victory, Juan Antonio Rodríguez hung the silver medal and Joaquín Carrasco the bronze.

 

As the culmination of a great duathlon party, all the participants were able to recover their strength after a hard and exciting day, in which the great organization stood out, some spectacular circuits and the effort of some duathletes who fought to the end, offering great performances in all the categories.
