ASTROMAD consolidates in Manzanares del Real

The winners of the race were Iván Álvarez in the men's category, who stopped the clock in 3 h 40: 57 and Yolanda Santos in the women's race, who completed the course in 4 h: 19: 04

Rodrigo Díaz, triathlete of the triathlon club Clavería de Móstoles, has entered the finish line after more than 5 hours of competition and has asked his girlfriend, who was waiting for him at the finish line and who did not know that the athlete had made the decision to culminate his sporting deed with this show of love.

It has been the most emotive image of the half Ironman ASTROMAD 2014, which has reached its fifth edition today and has served as the stage for the Madrid championship at this distance.

At 9 in the morning they took the start of 400 triathletes, 30 of them girls, in the Santillana reservoir, with water at 21 degrees. A giant pool for the tranquility of its waters, at an excellent temperature to practice swimming. Neoprene was allowed and most athletes have used it, except some brave little chilly.
  

After 1900 meters of swimming, the participants have faced the 80 kilometers of the cycling section, 3 returns to a route of 26 kilometers in a fairly flat stretch (although there was an annoyed slope of 3 km) betweenManzanares del Real and Colmenar Viejo. A section that has been made very hard because it was not allowed to go to the wheel (drafting) except in the 8 kilometers of bike lanes, and in which they had to compete alone without support wheels to stick to on the bike. The clouds have tempered the heat and the sun reigning today in the Sierra de Guadarrama.

Finally, 21 km on foot, half marathon, on the road that borders the Santillana reservoir, a beautiful route that has helped overcome the hardness of this segment, the legs cramped when running after more than two hours pedaling.
