Madrid reopens parks for walks and sports, but not the retreat or the Casa de Campo

It will also close 19 kilometers of pedestrian streets to traffic

The Madrid City Council has approved its Mobility plan to "avoid crowds" on the streets with controlled exits.

According to the newspaper. Is. the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, has announced that the city will have 19 more kilometers for pedestrians with the closure of 29-way traffic in all 21 districts

They will be held from this Saturday, all weekends and holidays, from 8 a.m. to 22 p.m.

This measure is temporary and will be maintained, in principle, throughout the month of May, according to Almeida.

At the moment there will be no more space for bicycles

The sections cut range from just 188 meters on a Carabanchel street to a maximum of 1,4 kilometers in Arturo Soria.

Not for the moment there is no plan to provide more space for bicycles, despite the Health recommendation to give them priority.

The "small parks" and green areas will open on Friday

The municipal government also has rectified its decision on parks and will open green areas this Friday of the districts.

However keeps “big parks” closed like El Retiro, Madrid Río or Casa de Campo among others.

No date has yet been provided for the reopening of these areas, and The decision has been conditioned to the fact that the people of Madrid make "good use" of the small parks.

The mayor recalled that sport "must be individual" and that passers-by "can't stop on the street to have conversations."
