Emilio Martín and Inma Pereiro win in Gernika

The Andalusian Emilio Martín, current world champion, and the Basque Inma Pereiro, two-time champion of Spain, won the triumph in the eighteenth International Duathlon of Gernika disputed yesterday on Sunday by 253 duatletas.

The cycling segment of 26 kilometers, so attractive visually as demanding because of its layout - this year especially by the frontal wind - was decisive in the resolution of the test.

On the bicycle, the favorites Emilio Martín -in the past he ran as a professional in the cycling squad- and Inma Pereiro they took a lead that guaranteed success, although with global times that were far from the best through a history woven from 1989.

The Huelva Martín got rid of the 29-years old French native of Tours and resident in Pau, Jeremy Pierrat, who was uncomfortable and even with lack of adaptation to the cycling tour that ran parallel to the Urdaibai biosphere reserve.

It was much easier for Inma Pereiro who, after leading the 5 kilometers on foot (18: 52) and the 26 on the bike (48 just minutes), was only sixth, again as an athlete, in the 2.600 meters played as last segment through the streets of Gernika.
Ibone Sánchez shone in that final stretch in which Inma Pereiro relaxed. Leire Etxezarreta, with faculties for cycling, won the fifth place after the Spaniard Estefanía Gómez.

Very good the role played by the men who accompanied the winner on the podium, ie, the Salamanca Alexis Rodríguez and the Biscayan Iurgi Etxeandia, respectively second and third.

Jeremy Pierrat -as athlete athlete of 3: 42 in 1.500 meters- he occupied the fourth place in his second test this season ahead of an increasingly grown Oier Ariznabarreta.

In short, Emilio Martín and the resident of Cantabria Inma Pereiro repeated their 2012 victories, this time achieved in a day of 8-9 degrees of temperature, high percentage of humidity, pitched sky and fine rain, conditions that did not detract from the public, although this one should bet in the circuit in long rows with the umbrella in the hand.
