Emilio Martín Duathlon World Sub-champion

After a brilliant career, the Huelva Emilio Martín it has been proclaimed Duathlon World Runner-up. While Sergio Lorenzo reached the fourth place.

 

 

The three Spaniards have offered us an outstanding performance, remaining in the top positions during a good part of the competition, and finally entering all of them in the Top-10 The Colombian city of Santiago de Cali has become the venue for the Duathlon World Championship on Saturday, a competition that has been held within the program of events of the Cali 2013 World Games.

 

At the start of the first 10 km of running, a large group was formed in the lead, led from the third round by Emilio Martín and the Belgian Antoine Duvivier. Although it was the French Benoit Nicolas who achieved a slight advantage at the entrance of the T2.

 

At the start of the 40 km cyclists, Belgian duathlete Rob Woestenborghs managed to catch up with the lead peloton after coming back from a 30-second deficit, and imposed a strong pace to get ahead of the sector. The three Spaniards, along with Nicolas, Duvivier, Thomas Bruins, Benjamin Choquert among others, remained in the front positions, following in the wake set by the Belgian.

 

Having reached the third of the six cycling laps, Woestenborghs, and the Spanish duo formed by Martín and Roger Roca, managed to escape, earning an income of 50 seconds. The three would collaborate with each other to increase this advantage, until near the end of the sector the Belgian got away from the Spaniards to undertake the last 5 km of solo race on foot and set himself up as the winner.

 

 

After him, Martin and Roca struggled to complete the rest of the podium. However, due to physical problems the Catalan lost his options at the end of the second segment, leaving the way free for Emilio Martín to obtain the silver medal, when crossing the finish line to 44 s of the Belgian. For his part, Nicolas Nicolas signed the bronze medal. While also Spanish Sergio Lorenzo arrived in an outstanding fourth position, with Roca finishing seventh.
