The countdown begins for the European Half Distance Championship - Half Challenge Barcelona
With less than a month to go before the European Middle Distance Championship – HALF CHALLENGE Barcelona , which will take place on May 19th in the Catalan town of Calella, 2.000 athletes have already confirmed their participation in this event that promises to be a landmark in the world of triathlon by bringing together for the first time in history two great world champions: Chris McCormack and Javier Gómez Noya . This event will also mark the Middle Distance debut for the Spanish triathlete, who will start as one of the favorites to take the top spot on the podium.
As if this were not enough, other leading figures in this sport, such as Denmark's Michelle Vesterby , current winner of the Lanzarote Ironman and 12th place in Kona, Camila Pedersen, 2012 Long Distance World Runner-Up and winner of the last edition of Half Challenge Barcelona, Italy's Martina Dogana , Germany's Kristien Lie and the debut in middle distance of Olympian Ricarda Lisk … among other favorites in the women's category, have already confirmed their presence.
In the men's category, although initially all eyes will be on Javier Gómez Noya and Chris McCormack who will guarantee a real spectacle, other leading triathletes should not be overlooked, such as the Danish Olympian Jens Toft, winner of the Half Challenge Fuerteventura , the Italians Cigana and D'Aquino , the great Belgian duathlete Joerie Vansteelant or the Russian, and at the same time invincible, Winter Triathlon specialist, Pavel Andreev, among other great triathletes.
Representing Spain, and as hosts of the event, HALF CHALLENGE Barcelona will have the privilege of featuring the current Spanish Middle Distance Champions, Raúl Amatriain and Marta Jiménez.
In this 2013 edition, the triathletes will debut a new cycling segment , a spectacular circuit that will run through two natural parks and will also have a perfect profile for holding a Middle Distance event.
Other new features for this European Championship will be the change of location of the pit area, which will be located at the foot of the Sport Area Calella sports and medical center, as well as the Hotel Sant Jordi, which will be the epicenter for the organization of said event.
These, among many other novelties such as the Challenge Party that will take place after the awards ceremony, will turn this event into the largest media distance triathlon event held in Spain in the last decade.
