Esmeralda Marí and Martin Strandlind win the second edition of the Mallorca 140.6 Triathlon

The second edition of Mallorca 140.6 Triathlon It was held in Playa de Muro despite the weather difficulties early in the morning.

Due to the risk of an electrical storm and the dangerous state of the sea in the bay of Alcudia, the decision was made to cancel the swim segment for security reasons and the test started with the triathletes directly in the cycling sector.

It is precisely in the 180 kilometers of cycling that the Spanish 'tri-armada' has lost all its options, with the falls of the locals Joan Nadal (second in 2021) and Ramón Ejeda, and the withdrawals of Carlos López and Ander Irigoyen.

In the segment on foot, the Swedish Martin Strandlind took the initiative and led the race to the finish line, crossing it in 7h37:16, almost 25' ahead of the Spanish Carlos Aznar, who achieved a meritorious second place after having suffered a fall during cycling.

The Polish Kacper Adam finished in third place after a long marathon through the streets of Muro.

In women, the Ibizan Esmeralda Marí debuted in the distance with victory with a time of 10:30:35, leading the race without opposition from the starting gun to the finish line at the Playa de Muro Town Hall.

The British Catherine Townsend was the second classified (11:13:50), and Clara Llorens was third (11:23:30).

In the half distance (1.900 meters of swimming, 90 km of cycling and 21 km of running) the victory went to the German Alina Würth and the Belgian Michael Van Cleven, who managed to beat their rivals with quite a difference. Würth managed to cut time in the race on foot from the Dutch Claudia Striekwold, second classified, and favorite, to stop the clock in 4:19:28.

For his part, Van Cleven, with a great time of 3h44:30, returned to competition after several years without being on a starting line, recovering from a bicycle accident while participating in the Portocolom Triathlon, a test he has won four times and to the who plans to return in 2023.

The organization has arranged cash prizes for the first classified male and female professionals that add up to a total of €10.000.

The Mallorca 140.6 Triathlon is organized by Kumulus, with the support of the Playa de Muro City Council, and with the support of the Tourism Strategy Agency of the Balearic Islands and the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan of the Government of Spain.
