More than 54% of Spaniards practice some sport outdoors

Running and cycling, the most practiced

As published I practice sportAccording to the latest study, more than 54% of Spaniards practice some sport outdoors.

The gradual measures of lack of refinement have facilitated physical exercise after almost two months of staying at home, so much so that according to the data of the latest study conducted by the Sondea Institute for Securitas Direct a 54,2% of Spaniards practice outdoor sports.

Running and cycling, the most practiced

In detail, of the most common sports outside the home and gyms, the running is still the king (28,49%), but is closely followed by cycling (17,03%), the trekking (13,75%), the football (11,4%), the mountaineering (11,6%), the basketball (7,42%) or the escalation (2,74%).

The benefits of doing sports are innumerable, but it is also true that its practice carries a series of risks that, especially with the lack of exercise outdoors for more than 50 days and the arrival of heat, can increase exponentially.

Sprains and fractures, the most common accidents

In turn, 6 out of 10 Spaniards have had an accident while playing sports. Sprains and fractures rank as the most common, followed by falls or bruises and heat stroke.

More than half of those surveyed (58,91%) claim to have suffered or seen an injury or accident while playing sports, and they are a sprain or fracture (34,11%), followed closely by a fall or contusion (31,42, 18,53%) the most frequent injuries. To a lesser extent are sunstrokes (12,10%), fainting (11,85%) or dehydration (XNUMX%).

Men more prone to accidents

It should be noted that men between the ages of 30 and 39 are the most likely to experience accidents or injuries, while, in the case of women, accidents occur to a greater extent in older age groups, between 55 and 65 years.

The majority of Spaniards, 64%, would call the emergency services directly in the event of an accident, while 22,6% would ask for help from people who were nearby; 12% would call a family member to assist them.

As the age of respondents increases, the percentage of those who would call or have called the emergency services for help in the event of an accident increases, while as the age decreases, the percentage of people who would call or have called increases. called a relative.

According to data from the Sondea Institute for Securitas Direct, only 1,1% would use an app to ask for help, a surprisingly low figure that is due to ignorance of their existence.

When there are sports activities as popular as trekking, cycling, mountaineering or climbing, which are often practiced in solitude and in more remote and abrupt areas, and which carry certain risks, these types of tools are usually very useful.

The study has been carried out on a sample of more than 2.000 individuals residing in Spain between 30 and 65 years of age, selected intentionally and proportionally to the cross quotas of the INE 2018 municipal register of inhabitants, according to sex, group of age and Autonomous Community.
