Eduardo Burguete, a benchmark of the Spanish triathlon, dies

Bad news for the Spanish triathlon, one of the pioneers of our sport Eduardo Burguete He passed away today after a long illness.

Edward was a pioneer of our sport and a representative figure of the Valencian and national triathlon.

Just 2 years ago, he competed in Cullera or Villa-real, wearing the colors of Correcaminos.org, a team he joined after previously passing through the CN Ferca San José de València, where he played in swimming and later in modern pentathlon.

It was precisely in this modality that he won a Olympic diploma, back in 1984 when he was part of the Spanish team in the Los Angeles Olympics.

A quick look through our triathlon image archive makes us appreciate the value of her figure. Eduardo Burguete crossed the finish line of the Valencia '92 Triathlon in 1st position. We are talking about the first triathlon in the city, the origin of what is today the Mediterranean Triathlon, home of the World Cup.

Burguete lived in Barcelona, a city where he moved to study INEF and where he also became a benchmark for triathlon, crossing the finish line in many tests.

The competition in GE 60-64 was now his forte and he demonstrated it, occupying top positions, as happened in 2020 in the Oropesa Triathlon, being the first in the category with the Barcelona Swimming Club.
