Fuerteventura European triathlon capital in the month of April
On April 30, Fuerteventura will become the European capital of triathlon, as once again Challenge has placed its trust in a Spanish town, as it already did with the Barcelona city of Calella, to carry out one of its races and continue growing .
In a statement, the organization of the event explained that the place where the race will take place will be the town of Las Playitas, in the municipality of Tuineje, located in the south of Fuerteventura, its cycling circuit passing through the other Majorero municipalities of Pájara, Betancuria , Puerto el Rosario and Antigua.
After swimming 1.900 meters through the magnificent waters of the Atlantic at Playa de Playitas, the triathletes will enjoy 90 kilometers of a great cycling route through several, where the wind will surely be one of the main protagonists due to its winding roads, and 21 of the race on foot with magnificent views of the sea, passing through Gran Tarajal Avenue.
For their part, the race organizers have designed a “spectacular” route, especially for triathletes with a lot of power in their legs since the cycling sector combines beauty and toughness in the same doses.
The route of the Half Challenge of Fuerteventura makes the Canarian test one of the toughest in the world in its distance, as is the case with the Ironman from Lanzarote, which guarantees epic events on April 30th in Las Playitas.
One of the triathletes who has already confirmed his presence is the Danish Rasmus Henning, brand new winner of the Roth Challenge where he was just 11 seconds away from the world record for the Ironman distance. Las Playitas is one of the sponsors of the Nordic triathlete as well as the Saxobank cycling team, which demonstrates the great involvement of the town with the sport.
Another of the attractions of the Fuerteventura Challenge is its inclusion within the international circuit, in addition to being the Canary Islands long-distance Championship.
The relay triathlon is one of the ITU's big bets for the future, which is why it is fighting to be included in the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. The organizers of the race, aware that this formula is gaining more followers every day, have also opted for it.
