Gómez Noya silver in the World Series of Madrid, Mola 4º

Javier Gómez Noya has won the silver medal this Sunday at the ITU Triathlon World Series celebrated in Madrid. While after a brilliant comeback, Mario Mola has achieved the fourth place, staying at the doors of bronze. In general, all the Spaniards in the contest have obtained a noteworthy role throughout the competition.

 

 

The Casa de Campo from Madrid dressed up to host the fourth round of the World Series, in which the British Jonathan Brownlee repeated at the top of the podium, after the triumph obtained in the edition of 2012.

 

After completing the 1.5 km of swimming in the lake of the Casa de Campo in Madrid, Gómez Noya came out among the first along with Ivan Vasiliev and Jonathan Brownlee, all of them falling below 18 minutes in this first section of the competition.

During the cycling segment, a group of five formed by the Ferrolan, Brownlee, Vasiliev, Alessandro Fabian and Aaron Royle led the eight laps on one of the most technical and hard cycling circuits of the World Series, which includes as one of its strengths the cable car slope.

The leading quintet has marked the pace of the sector at all times, preserving and expanding its advantage at the end of the course. While Ricardo Hernandez launched an attack in the fifth of the eight laps of the sector, to finally merge both persecuting platoons. Despite their attempts, the leading group entered the T2 with an outstanding advantage, to undertake the remaining 10 km of running.

At the beginning of the four laps, the youngest of the Brownlee has made a change of pace before which only Noya and Russian Vasiliev have been able to respond in the early stages of the sector. However, the Yorkshire triathlete managed to impose a strong pace to cross the finish line with a margin of 50 seconds with respect to Gomez Noya and 1 minute and 20 seconds apart with third place Vasiliev.

While a spectacular Mario Mola was climbing positions after being left behind in the initial swim. The Spaniard who left the T2 with a disadvantage of more than a minute, was advancing positions with his marvelous stride; overcoming on his way to Fabian and Royle, to be placed in fourth place in the final standings, and entering the finish line to just 10 seconds of the bronze medal. Mola completed the 10 km in 30 minutes and 12 seconds, achieving the best partial in the sector.

 

For his part, Ricardo Hernández reached the 20ª plaza, Vicente Hernández the 33ª, Uxio Abuín reached 37º and Cesc Godoy 43º. While Fernando Alarza had to leave in the course of the second round of the race on foot.

Gómez Noya has remained in the top positions since the first moments of the competition and after obtaining this medal, he advances to the first position in the men's ranking of the World Series with 2744 points. The Portuguese Joao Silva (absent in Madrid due to injury) occupies the second place with 2055 points; while Mario Mola keeps the third position with 1959 points.
