Gómez Noya runs out of the Prince of Asturias

The Spanish golfer José María Olazábal has been awarded withl Prince of Asturias Award for Sports 2013, after overcoming the Paralympic swimmer in the last round of voting by the jury Teresa Perales by nine votes to eight.

The canoeist also arrived at the final round of voting David Cal, the triathlete Javier Gómez Noya and the traditional Oxford-Cambridge Regatta.

The jury minutes highlight that Olazábal (Hondarribia, Guipúzcoa, 1966) is "one of the best golfers in history, with two Masters of Augusta and four victories in the Ryder Cup, competition in which he also demonstrated his leadership ability by leading the European team captain to an epic comeback in 2012. "

The jury of the Prize, whose members wore today in Oviedo the logo of Madrid 2020 in support of the Madrilenian candidacy to organize the Olympic Games, considers Olazábal "worthy successor of the spirit of the legendary Severiano Ballesteros", who also won this Award in 1989.
