Inmaculada Sánchez and David Navarro, winners of the first ICAN 57 of Benicàssim
A total of 150 triathletes gathered on Saturday in the first edition of the ICAN 57 Benicàssim, new test included in the ICAN 2014 Series calendar, together with Málaga, Nordhausen (Germany), Seville or Gandía-Valencia.
The competition started at eight in the morning to face 1,9 km of swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km of running.
In the men's competition there was a beautiful struggle between a group of four or five triathletes who exchanged positions in the different sectors. First, Manuel Castro was the fastest in swimming, but it was on the bike ride to the Desert of Las Palmas where David Navarro (BH Concept Store Valencia) took the lead to get kilometers after a few seconds of advantage, which he knew how to manage perfectly in the race on foot to reach the finish line in first position with a final time of 2 hours 26 minutes and 44 seconds.
Behind Enrique Martin (CT Red Riba) was the best of the pursuers in the race for the Paseo Marítimo, to finish second with a time of 2: 27: 04. The third place went to Xavier Boneta (Clarou Team Attitude), with a time trial of 2: 27: 51.
On the other hand, in the women's race, triathlete Inma Sánchez (Independiente) marked distance from the first sector, and thus she stayed until crossing the finish line with a time of 2 hours 57 minutes and 3 seconds. And we had to wait until the 3 hours, 23 minutes and 57 seconds to see cross by finish line to the second classified, Line Probst (independent), and even the 3: 38: 18 to complete the podium with Berit Barck (SD Correcaminos ).
In the subsequent awards ceremony, in the different age groups, was present the mayor of Benicàssim, Susana Marqués, accompanied by the councilor for Tourism, Elena Llobel, the director of competitions of the Valencia Triathlon Federation, the head of ICAN triathlon , Sunil Bardhwaj, one of the promoters of ICAN 57 Benicàssim, María Mir, as well as the queen and the bridesmaids of the festivities of this town of Castellón. A population in parties that lived with interest and enthusiasm the passion for triathlon.
