What you need to know about the 2016 Triathlon World Series
This year the goal for many is to qualify for the Rio Olympic Games
- The ITU Triathlon World Series form it nine competitions in 2016, starting in Abu Dhabi and concluding in the Grand Final in Cozumel, Mexico.
- The first four races of the series offer points that count in the Olympic qualification process for 2016 River.
- This year, the ITU test in England will be held in Leeds, hometown of the Brownlee brothers.
- Cozumel, Mexico, is the new headquarters in the series this year. Previously it was World Cup event, Cozumel will receive the athletes in September
- There will be 6 tests on Olympic distance (Abu Dhabi, Gold Coast, Yokohama, Leeds, Stockholm, Cozumel)
- 3 tests will be about Sprint distance (Cape Town, Hamburg, Edmonton)
- The five-time ITU World Champion Javier Gomez (ESP) has led the Columbia Ranking for the past three seasons.
- Javier Gómez Noya he climbed 8 of the 9 podiums in the WTS last year, in total of 36 in 48 WTS races.
- Mario Mola he was the fastest running in an Olympic test marking a time of 28: 59 in the 10 km
- The Brownlee brothers suffered an injury at 2015 and participated among the 2 at 7 races. Its state of form for this year is unknown.
- Gwen Jorgensen won the 7 tests in which she participated in 2015
- Gwen Jorgensen (USA) has been the female leader of the Columbia Threadneedle Ranking in 2014 and 2015
