Javier Gómez Noya "Brownlee has been very strong and has deserved the victory."

Get the third place in the gold coast and keep 2º in the general

The third round of the World Series played on Saturday in the Australian Gold Coast has been exciting given that since the swimming there have been differences that have been decisive for the final result.

Slovak Richard Varga as usual led in the water and only Jonathan Brownlee and Russian brothers Dimitry and Igor Polianski were able to follow in his wake. Gómez Noya got on the bike 15 seconds late together with 5 other triathletes and a chase began that did not bear fruit since in the middle of the 40km the leading quartet got to take 30 seconds out of Javi's group, with a peloton from 20 triathletes to another half minute.

But in the final kilometers the differences were reduced until there was almost a general regrouping. In front Igor Polianski fell at the end of the 5 lap when he hit the fence and there was little time for the other three of the group to go down. And in turn the main platoon hunted the group of Gómez Noya. With a few less in front and many more behind, the difference in the last 2 turns was reduced until it was only 20 seconds in the 2ª transition.

Worse despite having thrown most of the time in the lead, Jonathan Brownlee Not only did he hold on to the lead on foot, he even managed to increase the advantage to more than 30 seconds while Varga and Dimitry Polianski were soon overtaken by the fastest of the main group. Among them the other podium positions were played, being Mario Mola 2º ahead of Javier and another Spanish, the Canary Vicente Hernández who achieved his best result in the World Series: "I was not counting on losing the wake of Varga and Brownlee in swimming, but water got into my goggles and as I followed the Frenchman Le Corre I didn't realize that the others had taken advantage. Then by bike it was impossible to catch them although by hunting me the big group we have reduced the difference a lot. On foot I didn't feel good at first but at least I was able to secure third place. Brownlee has been very strong and has deserved the victory.".

With this third place, Javier remains 2º of the general after Brownlee, while Mario Mola recovers the 3ª. The next appointment will be in Cape Town on April 26 Sunday, where Gomez Noya won the 2014 victory.
