KONA, the goal of Víctor del Corral for this season 2015

Even with the past participation in the IM 70.3 St. George Utah last weekend and the aftermath of the virus that prevented him from participating in the Challenge Fuerteventura, Víctor del Corral prepares the next challenge of his American tour, Texas.

At the speed of light, always giving the maximum and with great passion, this biker turned into an elite triathlete, tells us how he is living his American challenges and what his goals are for this 2015.

What sensations has the IM 70.3 St. George Utah?

I knew what could happen a bit what happened, that having been bad the last two weeks because it was not going to get well although maybe if I had a little hope of having recovered more, because in these last days I had been trained well and thought that I could go a little better career. But if it is true that, then already in competition when it was really tight, let's say to give the maximum, I saw that I lacked strength, I did not have the feeling of being going fast like other times.

I got out of the water not feeling good anymore, by bike the first kilometers were hard for me, the environment was a bit cold and I wasn't feeling too well either. There I already left a little time and although later I did feel a little better, in the race on foot I already saw myself very far and I did not want to push more to the limit but a little more to conserve and do it as a good training thinking about the Ironman of Texas which is two weeks from now.

And thinking of Texas ... how are you preparing it and what do you expect from this test?

It is one of the tests I wanted to prepare well, although as I said those days that I have been sick they have left me a bit touched. I hope to finish recovering these days. I am in Fenix, where I am training to be able to do a good competition in Texas.

The truth that right now I do not know if I will be to fight to win or to be on the podium or to do top ten. I always go out to give the maximum and then a bit the race is telling you how far you can go, but let's see if we can get a good result there.

In this 2015, what will be your most ambitious goal at the competition level?

The main objective is to be in Kona and for this I am trying to be in the most important tests to get points. The truth that so far is not finishing everything as I would like but good, I think you can leave some good race from here to the end of the season and we go ... I TRUST IT!

Another goal that I have set for this 2015, is to win an Iroman, it is difficult because in the end I am participating in the tests with more level than there are and are the ones that are more complicated to win but well, I always believe that it has more value a result in a test with a lot of level, with many people that sometimes win in one that has less.

What does "Kona" mean to a triathlete?

For a long-distance triathlete KONA is what it would be like for an Olympic triathlete in the Olympics. It is the queen test where everybody is, where all the participants arrive at the best level of form and it is the MAXIMUM. It's the test you have to be in, you know that in professionals, ironman, it's complicated because you have to fight for one of those 50 squares, which are very little at the end and well, I think it's something that motivates everyone to continue training every day and to fight for it.

You have great support, what does a brand need to trust its image and sponsor an athlete?

I am lucky to have great sponsors such as Inverse, Cannondale, Sands Beach ... that bet for me and that thanks to them I can be doing what I do and the way I do it.

A brand needs to see that the image of an athlete can represent the values that the brand has and that it is a good way to get people to know the product firsthand based on their own individual experience, so that they can identify the brand with the values that the athlete transmits and that can help sales to be better and that the product is better placed commercially.

How does a triathlete live, is it a profession that can be lived?

Yes, it is a profession that can be lived. I have always said that it is not a profession, at least in my case, in which one has the intention of earning a lot of money or getting rich but if I believe that allows you to live doing what you like, enjoying other things than better are not materials. It allows you to travel to many places, meet many people, have experiences that maybe you would not have in other types of jobs ...

When I decided to quit my job to do this, it is what I valued. I also believe that it has a specific duration and that going back to where it was before will always be possible and surely in a few years it will be what I play and we will continue the rest of our working life like any other person but during these years, it allows me to enjoy this sport and these experiences that are really very beautiful.

Madness and passion for sports, do you need to be a little crazy to become an elite triathlete?

You need to have passion really although a point of madness may always be necessary to throw yourself at the end of the head. But the passion is what moves us at the end and if you enjoy what you are doing, I think that madness goes to the second term and that passion is what moves you and makes you enjoy it.

You live in Lazarote, what TRI-TIPS would you give to people who compete on the Island?

Lanzarote is a special place to live, to train and to compete. The island has the particularities that it has, always the wind, the heat, the hardness of all the roads, roads and other ... which makes it necessary to regulate very well. It is a place where you have to go very calmly, excesses always pay a lot.

And thinking about the Ironman that is coming now very little, one of my advice always for all the people that ask me is that, we have to be careful with the first kilometers of the bike because we always think that afterwards the kilometers returned if the wind is from the north are favorable and they become very hard. You have to get to the Mirador del Río with a lot of bellows still, with a lot of force, to guarantee the return to Puerto del Carmen and to enjoy the race on foot that has a spectacular atmosphere and that is enjoyed with energy.
