Leon Chevalier and Ruth Astle win the IRONMAN Mallorca 

The historic Bay of Alcudia hosted the 10th edition of the Zafiro IRONMAN 70.3 Alcudia-Majorca, and for the first time since 2016 the long distance returned to the Balearic Island with IRONMAN Majorca.

Viewers and online viewers watched an intriguing professional career unfold in both men's and women's professional careers with French. Leon chevalier and the British Ruth Astle winning his first IRONMAN titles.

The athletes were welcomed at the IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 races in Mallorca for the first time since May 2019, with calm seas and ideal racing and spectator conditions.

With an imposing lineup of professional athletes, the first to get out of the water in the time of 00:46:03 was the German Florian Angert.

The 2019 IRONMAN Barcelona champion once again demonstrated his prowess in the water to take a slight lead towards T1 knowing that the strongest in cycling like Cameron Wurf (AUS) would challenge him.

Angert led to 30km on the bike when Wurf overtook him, with Chevalier and Kristian Hogenhaug (DEN) also overtaking the German. Wurf maintained his lead in T2, but Chevalier and Hogenhaug kept up, trailing the Australian by seconds.

With the temperature rising during the race, Chevalier took the lead early in the race and seemed comfortable stretching his lead over Wurf to nearly five minutes in the middle of the race.

After getting off the bike, Angert closed the gap with Wurf and moved into second position at the 27 kilometer point, four and a half minutes behind Chevalier.

The German put forth a strong effort to close the gap to less than a minute, but Chevalier was able to hold for his first IRONMAN win, also being U-8 in the process with a time of 07:57:03. Angert finished second in 07:57:59 with Wurf completing the podium in 08:04:03.

Britain's Fenella Langridge was the first out of the water at 00:49:24 followed by Swedish Lisa Norden, five seconds away. The German Anna-Lena Best-Pohl was at 02:33.

Langridge led the first few kilometers, but Norden, in his first full IRONMAN, took the lead after 34km with Langridge, Sara Svensk (SWE) and Ruth Astle (GBR) in tow, with a distance of just over two minutes.

French Justine Matthieux moved to fourth place. Astle jumped to second position after 110 km. Norden was the first to enter T2 with a difference over Astle of 04:22 with Svensk eight minutes behind the leader in third position.

Norden looked initially strong leading the first 25km of the foot race, with Astle steadily declining in the lead, finally taking the lead after 26km.

Meanwhile, Mathieux took third place just over a minute behind Norden before moving into second place in the 30km.

The French athlete closed the gap to just 40 seconds in the 35km, but Astle was able to consolidate her position to take victory in a time of 08:59:15, 01:23 ahead of Mathieux in second place.

On a late lap for third position, Germany's Kristin Liepold narrowly edged Norden on the final leg in a spectacular sprint to finish off a thrilling race with the best time of the day.
